Every time I see Noel I just must smile. It's an involuntary reaction.

It was the end...the very end of Noel's story that did it for me. I coughed from laughing so hard. xD

Groucho claimed that Harpo was the cleverest and funniest but Groucho himself was the fastest and perhaps the greatest American comedian of all time. RIP both.

@ohnoher There's also an assumption in the world (not just entertainment but journalism and academia too) that while women are interested in stories about men, men are not interested in stories about women. Which, if true, is pretty sad.

I think that Dawn French's "Girls who do comedy" is way funnier than this male version, but I think it just depends.

if you said 'black people aren't that funny', that would be racism. saying 'women aren't that funny' is sexism.

I disagree with you. Women are just as funny as men are. The comedy world is just a very male dominated business (like most businesses), so males are usually the ones who get top billing and ever really "make it." That's not to say that the fellas here haven't earned their keep (oh how I love Eddie Izzard); it's just important to acknowledge the role that good old fashion sexism plays in the entertainment world.

People do still do women problems, they always will, it's a comedy act that works for them, don't generalise by saying "no one". Also, in what way am I 'keeping brilliant female comics in the dark'? If you actually could comprehend what I typed, you'd realise that I give everyone a chance, I don't refuse to watch something just because they're female, but from what I've seent the majority aren't that great. I'm not prejudiced, it's just something that I've observed.

I never said it was a fact, I compared it to biological because I was trying to point out how it's not sexism/racism as long as there is sufficient evidence to back the claim. I never hounded you to use evidence, I said that if there is evidence for what you're saying then you're not sexist/racist, you're not prejudiced and jumping to conclusions. You just fail to see the meaning behind words and god forbid should you ever work for an intelligence agency.

It's not a preconception so much as something i've concluded, I watch all comedians without prejudice, if they're funny then they're funny. There are funny women, but the MAJORITY aren't that great, some of them only get by on the whole "women problems" crap too, which is irritating, I prefer unisex comedy. The business is male dominated because there are a lot more funny males around who want to go into comedy imo.

Johnathon Ross isn't worthy of being interviewed alongside any of these comedy stars and i think Dawn knew that so didn't waste her time with him.

ugh this is SO dumb! As if this kind of conversation still exists! It has nothing to do with the male or the female sex, it has to do with the comedian themselves! That's like saying that Sarah Silverman only appeals to Jews, but Richard Pryor appeals to both black and white people. Give me a break. If you find French and Saunders, or other fantastic comediennes alienating then you're the problem, not them.
@Strarnin17 жыл бұрын
That is most definitely true. Sexism is still a huge factor - although you could also say that comediennes like Victoria Wood, Jo Brand and Jenny Eclair alienate male audiences by doing predominantly female-centric material. I tried to think of as many women comics as I could, and out of only 19 there were 5 who I didn't find extremely annoying. Although, I haven't yet done the same with male comics... there is no excuse for that grotty little pleb Jim Davidson!!!
@Arkantos11712 жыл бұрын
No, i'm saying that sociologically women aren't as funny as men.
@Strarnin17 жыл бұрын
why are men inherently so much funnier than women? with a few exceptions (French & Saunders, Victoria Wood)
@Arkantos11712 жыл бұрын
It's not sexism, the majority of female comedians just aren't that funny.
