Trick for memorizing purines vs. pyrimidines: the first letters of adenine and guanine are Ag, the atomic symbol for silver. Silver is pure (PURE-ine), while a cut (cytosine, uracil, and thymine) are not. Hence, adanine and guanine are purines, while the others are not.

Hello Sir !! Thank you for your Videos for better understanding of these topics. I have one questions, at 4:46 minute .. the guanine and cytosine which are to be base paired are placed in antiparallel way as 2 DNA strands are antiparallel ! Clear ! But when I tried to establish hydrogen bonding between these bases, its not working ! Both the NH2 groups are coming on the same side and so no hydrogen bonds ! Then I drew both bases parallel and the hydrogen bonding can be seen ! just modification i made was just to invert the deoxyribose sugar to have antiparallel nature ! So is it just the sugars are antiparallel and bases are not ?
