Rome Fiumicino Airport - International Departure Part 1 (Arrival by Train and Check In with Delta)

This video shows how travelers arrive at FCO - Rome Fiumicino Airport by the Leonardo Express, which is the express train operated by Trenitalia from Roma Termini (Rome’s main train station). You can get to the Rome Airport Train station by taking Regional FL1 trains. We then walk from the Rome Airport Train Station to Terminal 3 where we will check in with Delta Airlines and walk to Security Control. This walkthrough will show international travelers the steps needed to check in and begin their walking journey to their departure gate.
Part 2 of this video will pick up from where we left off at security control and take us all the way to the departure gate.

I have a flight at 1:00pm from air Canada , should be terminal 3 as well, could you tell me how long does it take from the Leonardo express train station to your check in counter? I'm planning to book a train from Naples 9:20 to Rome termini arrives at 10:30, then take a Leonardo express train to Fiumichino airport , my question is if I have enough time for the flight at 1pm?🙏

On average the Leonardo Express train ride takes about 32-34 minutes. There are 4 trains per hour (roughly every 15 minutes). It doesn’t leave a great amount of time, especially if checking bags at FCO because typically baggage check in deadline is 60 minutes from the flight. However if everything is on time it is possible.

Thanks for the info navigating FCO! Are VAT refunds done before or after security control/check-in desk?

I know there are some before security but I’m not sure about afterwards

How soon should we arrive before departure

The recommendation is arriving 2 hours prior to a domestic flight or 3 hours before an international flight. However in the 2 times I’ve flown out of FCO two hours was adequate. (It was a non-holiday weekday)

Is there any way to know what check in desk you will use BEFORE arriving and looking for big screen?

If there is, I’m not aware of it. Generally the airlines typically use the same bank or check in desks daily but aside from looking at the sign I don’t know of a way to determine that beforehand.

How do you get to terminal 5 from the Leonardo Express?

From my understanding Terminal 5 has been closed since 2017 and construction of a new central airside hall began. Currently from what I’ve seen and researched only Terminals 1 & 3 are open and operating.
