Everyone dressed to the nines (old timey expression) back then. People even got dressed up to take an airplane trip. Nowadays, people show up at the airport in track suits or pajamas.

Desi was a genius and often overshadowed by Lucy, who no one would say wasn’t the The Queen of Comedy. Desi was the first to film in front of a live audience and use three cameras. Not to mention breaking ground on the topic of pregnancy.

Will be 66 in a few days and remember watching this show in the early 60’s when I was just a kid, obviously reruns. But I didn’t realize the greatness of the show until I was older. To be honest, I’ve seen every episode so many times I know every line. And even after that, I can still laugh!! It was great seeing this clip and where the audience sat. ❤❤❤

I remember watching I Love Lucy when I was a little boy in Buffalo, NY. in the 1950s. Didn't know what it was all about, but I remember my parents laughing.

I was a little girl in Hamilton, Ontario in the 1950s, and watched reruns of ILL on WBEN TV from Buffalo in the mornings before kindergarten. And, there was Uncle Jerry’s Club on Sundays! My husband says one reason he married me was because I saw the Three Stooges, live, at the Town Casino. The 1950s were Buffalo’s Golden Age. I remember them with great fondness. Thanks for bringing those memories back to me.

Love the behind the scenes look at “ I Love Lucy “ at :50, I see long time character actress Ann Doran, who spent a lot of time at the then “ “ Columbia Ranch “ with The Stooges, Charlie Chase and many Columbia films. Her husband in this is Benny Baker who a lot of folks kno as the bartender on “ F-troop “. Love this.

@@redfields5070 I watched shows like Brady Bunch and The other Lucy shows that were filmed in the 60s. They dressed up the same. Though I have no idea what the regular society was like then. I wasn’t born until mid 80s. The neon greens and pinks and leggings days along with really poofy bangs.🤪 Love looking at what I wore as a kid. Even my Barbie dolls still have the 90s style that my nieces now play with.

It shows the filming of The Benefit which originally aired in January 1952. As I said in another comment, at this point, Lucy and Desi only had one child, little Lucie. I find it strange that when Desi introduced Lucy, he said that she was the mother of his children. Plural.

Something doesn't make sense to me. When he introduces Lucille Ball, Desi says that she is the mother of his children. Plural. But, this segment shows them filming the episode "The Benefit" which originally aired in January 1952, a full year before Desi Jr was born. At this point, Lucy and Desi only had one child, little Lucie. Why would he say she was the mother of his children when they only had one child at this point?

Today's sitcoms takes 6 to 10 hours to film a 22 minute episode they did it under an hour they rarely took retakes that's how good these actors were back in the day so yes they memorize all their lines, and if you watch carefully you can see the screw ups, but they recover quickly, and improvised out they're freaking geniuses

When Vivian Vance (Ethel) was dying she asked Lucille Ball and Desi Arnez for money to help pay her rent and medical Bills they told her no. Vivian was playing the Meadowbrook Night Club right up until her death in 1979 to try to pay her bills. What a great friend Lucille Ball was - NOT. I never watched I Love Lucy again. I know this for a fact because I drove past The Meadowbrook and saw the Sign announcing her show times in 1979.

I dont believe that the entire show we see was totally filmed in front of a livr audience. I've seen episodes where Desi is standing next to William Fred Frawley being the same height.a few frames latet.Ricky is a whole hrad taller.the same standing next to Lucy He is obviously wearing his three inch "gaucho" boots in some takes.and during retakes he sometimes seems to be wearong inserts inside his shoes like Dr Schole footpad gels and even two inch wedges on top of those.when he tries to run.as in lucy hides furniture in the kitchen or in Hollywood running after the maid he slmost topples over.

I've enjoyed watching 'I Love Lucy' most of my life and still watch it today. Lucy was an intelligent woman, responsible for many things to do with the business, but there's at least one thing about her that is overlooked, she didn't really commit to the characterizations she portrayed on the show. For example, portraying a man with a full face of makeup, red lipstick and all, or simply putting on a grey wig and becoming an old woman, etc. Perhaps it's budget restraints, but still......There's another redheaded comedian who I feel is far superior in her character portrayals and humor, but still, I Love Lucy.

It's still a fantastic look into the way an episode was filmed and the layout of the audience and how the stars were introduced prior to the start of that evening's filming. It was also obvious to me that this was a Desilu production short, highlighted by the continual focus on a couple and their reactions from start to finish. But still, it's a treasure to see something that I had never seen regarding the production of this classic TV show.
