I love this knife. Haven’t had a bad experience with BPS & the people there are great. I’m hoping more people will buy soon considering what’s going on in Ukraine in 2022 and the support they need. Rarely find more communicative knife makers. Real people making real knives. As someone with many Mora, I really enjoy the wooden scales and full tang of these. They definitely came shaving sharp to me and after many uses have retained their edge. They must have some magic trick when it comes to heat treatment.

Totally agree. I visited the BPS website yesterday and they have a header up about current conditions over there. Also of note is that every product on the site is listed as sold out. I pray that they their families and countrymen are wel and will come out of this ok. Thanks for the comment.

@@charlesartificer2158 They told me they are all having to shelter at home. It must be scary as hell. I’m just hoping that Amazon is still sending them the $ from the purchases. Of course there are bigger issues, but $ does help when struggling to survive. I intend to get one knife everytime my budget allows and not just to help them, but because they really are great knives. I have Condor and other r knives twice the price that are not as good as the quality these give.

I have one but the handle needs to be bigger for such a large blade. I gave my feedback to the company. I ordered three knives and fell in love more with their HK4 than the Adventurer. I'd like to see a 4" bladed Adventurer. I plan to take off my handles and give them several coats of Tung oil before putting them back on. Fantastic knives for the price. It is a $50 knife with a thick leather sheath and firesteel.

I hear you neighbor, how are things over there? I used to come up into Canada all the time back in the day. But since the world went crazy I think you know what I'm talking about without me saying it here, I haven't been back up there. Yeah BPS makes excellent knives. I have no complaints with any of their knives that I've got. I do want to see if they come out with some new models with the war going on. Yeah tongue oil is awesome that's my go-to oil. If not that then boiled linseed oil. Thanks for the views and the comments.

Agreed. So many knife manufacturers make knives in right hand only option for the sheath. What I would like to see from them is a Kydex or polymer sheath option. But then again things like this in life is what causes many of us to learn to make our own. Thanks for the comment and views.

You make an excellent point, we do say for the money a lot with certain knives. The reason we do that I think is because as a culture we've been conditioned that the more money you spend the better knife you get. And in this case it's not true. As you said this is just a good knife. Thanks for the comment and views I hope you stick around have a good day.

That black walnut ain't no joke son!😂 That's hard as a damn rock! You can make dyes out of the hulls off those things that you will have to "live off" your skin, it kills bugs, fungus, and pretty much everything else if you just leave it laying around. My grandfather made black walnut pound cakes and we would sit and crack those jokers with a hammer and a hunk of steel and pick em out. That looks like mill scale under there, not active red rust. Keep it oiled and it'll blacken and harden like the gray on old tools, ya know. Mill scale is hard. Once its established on the entire knife, it quits red rusting so much, and it won't turn your food weird colors etc😂

This was a pretty good review. I have several BPS knives and for the money they are great. The sheath is really good and worth the price by itself and I prefer it over a plastic sheath that has no character or warmth. I wrap my feet in leather and my knives too. Leather doesn’t make noise when brushed up against things while in the woods like plastic. You like plastic (kidex) and and I like leather. Each to his own.
@charlesartificer2158
@charlesartificer2158 Жыл бұрын
Yes BPS knives I think is one of the better bang for your buck Brands out there. I agree with you we have different tastes and sheaths. I don't have any problem with any of my Kydex making noise mainly because the way I wear them. I keep them out of the way when I'm going through brush and stuff like that. But my big issue with leather sheaths besides the fact it can rust a blade if it's sitting in it long-term. Is the fact that we have so many swamps here where I live. It was nothing sometimes for me when I was younger to cut through multiple swamps. Now that I'm older I don't do that as often. And there's just something about that swamp water that tends to destroy leather. It's not like I don't take care of the leather. I have neat foot oil. About the only leather I found that can handle it is boot leather, but that boot leather has kiwi polish on it. And I do believe the kiwi helps preserve it. But I understand when you talk about character I totally get that. A good portion of my life I used to make custom blades and I used to make leather sheaths by hand. I'm still working on some new techniques for Kydex two give it more character. Thanks for the comments and views, I hope you stick around.

@@tompeltoma8531 not a problem brother we live in a very big country with a lot of different Terrain. But up here I don't know if you've ever been to Michigan It's Not Unusual to have two or three swamps and a river to literally in your way if you're tracking a wounded deer for instance. In fact there's a swamp I'm thinking about it's up in the north part of the state and that swamp has had I think five or six different people go missing in it. Some of these swamps aren't very safe places to play Let's just put it that way. I'd love to see Texas even if you don't have that much water. Just for a change of scenery you know what I mean

Actually I already have that covered. But thank you for the advice. Part of my semi-annual maintenance for any knife I use is to remove the scales if I can and I put a coat of mineral oil on them before putting the scales back on. Also a coat of mineral oil on the blade before returning it to storage. It's kind of become a big habit with me my dad got me into doing it. Mainly because here in Michigan we have pretty nasty humidity during the spring and summer months. So if you're not rocking a stainless steel blade you better be rocking the mineral oil. I'm having a really hard time deciding between the BPS and condor terrasaur. the BPS has a nice leather sheath and nice wood handles, and also comes with a fire steel. But, the terrasaurs handles seem like they would be more comfortable.
@charlesartificer2158
@charlesartificer2158 2 жыл бұрын
I have reviewed the Terrasaur, just have not posted the video yet. So maybe I can help you decide on which one is the best fit for you. First off the Terrasaur handle is ergonomic and fits the hand well. BUT it is polypropylene hard plastic depending on your taste this can be a good thing or bad. Personally, I wish they would have added some molded rubber to the handle to help with wet hands. The BPS Adventurer Handle is a very good fit as well, bonus the handle can be easily removed in case you want to customize it. You can't easily remove the Terrasaur handle. Overall I like the BPS handle over the Terrasaur, but that's me. The blades on both knives is a high carbon steel and are scandi grinds. The BPS Adventurer has a Blade length - 5 1/3 inches(13.5 cm). The Terrasaur has a 4.25" (10.8cm) Blade length. So the BPS is a bit longer. Also as you have stated the BPS Adventurer comes with a Ferro rod. Right now on Amazon the BPS Adventurer costs $39.95 The cheapest I could find the Terrasaur is $40.65 and that's for the Orange one. If you want the Desert tan, Black or army Green you will pay$45.88 to $44.40. So with all of that in mind I feel the BPS Adventurer is the better knife and deal. I feel this way for the following reasons. 1 IMO the BPS has a better handle. 2 I prefer at least a 5-inch blade for an outdoor knife. The BPS has this the Condor is shorter. 3 Cost The BPS costs less and I feel it's more bang for your buck. Also No one knows how long they will be available with the war going on. You can Buy a BPS now but 6 months from now, who knows. Me personally I would rather get one now try it out, I can for sure get a Condor any other time. 4 As someone who owns both and have used both I can say they are both quality. But I feel the BPS surpasses The Terrasaur just enough in quality to make it worthwhile. I feel the BPS is a Knife for life, something you can pass on to your kids. Sorry about this super long response. I am trying to be as clear and accurate as possible. I know what it is like to agonize over something like this. I hope I have given you some food for thought I also hope you stick around and come back for my Terrasaur knife review when I finally get around to posting it. Have a great night.

@@charlesartificer2158 wow thank you that is a lot more than I expected. It does seem like the BPS would be better, especially if the handles are better. I also agree with your point that it's hard to know if they'll be available for much longer. I don't know if you considered this but I think you should do a video comparing the two. I think there will be a lot of people searching things on this knife and since it falls into the category of the terrasaur I think people will be looking for comparisons (especially since DBK specifically mentioned the similarities in their recent review). Why are you removing the oil from under the scales, its there to protect the blade, its not going to hurt you or contaminate your food under the handle, even better to use use Super Lube under the handle, its thicker, its food grade grease. or fairly non toxic and will protect the blade better then mineral oil.

I got this knife and I'm thinking about removing the scales and doing a paracord wrap. Do you think putting clear fingernail polish on the tang before the wrap would be a good rust protectant? Any other suggestions or recommendations?
@charlesartificer2158
@charlesartificer2158 2 жыл бұрын
It could work, but moisture has a way of getting under the best paint. Here where I live in MICHIGAN its a constant battle to keep high carbon steel from rusting. It rains here 3 to 4 times a week and is very swampy. Now with that in mind I have found that if you paint something like a blade or shovel you need to clean it after every use and renew the paint when you come back home. If you don't then you will end up with rust. I hope this helps. In the past I have done paracord wraps on knife handles. I have gotten away from it for a few reasons. One the paracord will pick up sweat and dirt rather quickly if you are using it in the outdoors. It also will wick up water and take some time to dry out. This is something you don't want near high carbon steel. Also if you use the knife to process game or fish the paracord will pick up the blood and smell. So to keep thing clean and sanitary you end up changing out the cord evey time you use for more than a few days. All in all its a hassle. Personally I prefer stabilized sealed hardwood or G10 scales as handle material for knives. It won't get waterlogged pick up oils, dirt or blood. Washes off clean and can look quite stunning. If you are thinking on changing up the handle on your knife think about that. There are hundreds of colors and exotic hardwoods to choose from to customize your blade. If you want to carry extra paracord with you then put it in your pack or 10ft wound up in you pocket. Personally I think getting it near a high carbon blade is a mistake. I hope my long response here helps you out.
