At the end it brings a whole new meaning to the phrase window hanging....jesus youre almost in the opposite 4ft 🤣 Cracking sights and sounds from start to finish......

Wonderful roarer footage and of course the cans and vans too. All now much missed. Can't beat the sound of the old AC leccies on power up. They announced their arrival to all with thier unique and often loud running noises. A stark contrast to today's quiet and bland units.

Glad you enjoyed mate, I drive 331s for a living and also 319s which still have a decent bit of traction motor thrash so still have a remnant from my youth for now least.
@soundseeker632 жыл бұрын
@@hughesy45108 319s have a bit of old school character, but nothing beats the air-raid siren sounds of the old locos. I also like the tick tock noises they made when they were just parked up. They used to scream when the rheostatic brakes were working too. What fun!

Great video; thanks for uploading! Quite rare to see quality early AC traction footage … some interesting workings and carriage formations as well! 👍

Fantastic video of a unique part of British railway history! :D I was just wondering, would it be possible for me to use this footage as part of an upcoming documentary I'm creating about the history of the Class 81 to 85?

Lovely to see the loco change on 6A40 on the Up Goods at Preston. Happy memories of summer evenings perched on the end of the P3 ramp next to PN109 sig. :)

The Workington - Dover was one of the last decent mixed rake freight we had before the death of Speedlink . PN111 was also a seat of choice in my spotting days 76-82 ish before the lure of bashing . I drive out of 3/4C bays for a living these days and picture myself sat spotting on a brute 45 years ago! Thanks for the comment

I would guess that the two EMUs are 303060 and 303082 which had been in store after they were displaced from the Manchester area services. Only three 303s returned north to Glasgow from Manchester, the celebrity 303048 in July 1989 and 303060/082 following a period of storage in May 1992, neither of the latter two units return to service, and languished at Yoker and Shields Road depots before being cut up by MC Metals in March 1994. If the date of the video can be confirmed as 1992 then it is definately those two units
@hughesy451082 жыл бұрын
Hi mate , the date is 100% June 91 . 85114 was the last 85 through Preston under is own power.
@Lowlandlocomotives2 жыл бұрын
@@hughesy45108 Then it is definately 303060 and 303082. The date I had was the official transfer from Longsight to Shields Electric, which was most likely later. 303048 was by that time refurbished and repainted into the oriinal blue. Great video.

@@hughesy45108 Well the bogies are quite similar, they both have the removable upper body section and they were both built at Doncaster works with EE and AEI equipment used... cab layouts very similar too. You can tell one was evolved from the other.

If the Speedlink network hadn't been wrapped up in June 91 I'm sure they would of enjoyed a little longer in service
