I'm a little late to the party, but I for one like the length and nature of your videos. There are already hundreds of short videos that run down the basics, but they lack the depth and insight you provide. It takes a deep well of knowledge to talk at length on these topics and remain relevant and interesting. Let the other guys make their quick how-to videos, but as a novice archer, I must say that I've learned a great deal more from your more philosophical videos. Thanks!

Gray it's nice to see you are back with a renewed vigour! If I could humbly give you one suggestion about your videos it would be that you name them differently to attract more viewers. Most videos should include "instinctive archery" or instinctive recurve or the like in the title. You would be amazed at the increase in views they would get. Few people are going to find this video based on a search they type into KZbin. Thanks for teaching me how to shoot!

I have a 70" Galaxy that was really grouping with a 9" brace height, today it seemed like I was shooting an unfamiliar bow.. .. ..the brace height was 8 1/2. That point about centre point being affected by brace height is an eyes opener. Thank you.

There is another thing you can see when you shoot a bare shaft: If the nock is higher than the tip your nocking point is to high. If it is lower than the tip your nockingpoint is to low. They sometimes get loose and start wandering on the serving. Of course you have to shoot several arrows to make shure it wasn't just a mistake you made. It's great to see you back Grey!

ashbow archer keep in mind that only works on a surface that is 90° on the arrow, to test it prefferably shoot very close on target let someone else stand next to you to let you know when your arrow is 100% horizontal, then fire - read result

I do not have a centershot bow. And i have experienced that increasing bh makes the arrow act stiffer and vise versa.

But at the end of may i will have one. Custom hybrid longbow from a finnish manufacturer with centershot. Interesting to see what happens when i bareshaft that bow.

i have always been reading that increasing brace height takes poundage of the bow and making it shorter will increase it.. and for the most part it did make sense to me... but i have this idea recently that changing brace height its not affecting the poundage of the bow at all.. because yes when you decrease bh now you need to draw more,lets say you draw 28" with a bh of 9", if you change to 8,5" you will now still drawing to the same length + the 0,5" that you take it.. but when you decrease the bh you are putting your limbs in a position that is lets say.. less stressful(and forgive my english) and viceversa when you increase the bh the limbs when are at rest will be more under pressure.. so this may need to be take in consideration when we talk about this idea of changing bow weight when changing bh... i hope someone can get my point as we may see this topic as a matter of how forces cancel each other and we need to consider when talking about this that the limbs doesnt have a straight line of "increasing draw,increase power" we know that its more of a curve so thats my point forgive my english and please reply on this im really interested in hearing others opinions.

ohhh i see nice thanks you! , so its the draw lenght what makes the dif at the end right? but what if we put it this way i have a bow #1 with 7" bh and a bow #2 9" bh same weight same everything ,and we say we take a initial point at 9" to take a photo of the bows at that draw, bow #1 Will need to draw 2" to get to the initial point where bow #2 Will not been draw yet now we take a photo the limbs on each bow Will be at the same position and the draw that i need to make to get to my 28 inch is the same on both now.. 21" so if i start with both limbs at the same "Flex" position and make the same exact draw lenght on both i Will end with the same Flex at full draw with no change on draw weight does that makes sense to you? i still think arrow speed may change as you release the arrow but not the weight.. such an interesting topic by the way 😁
@matiasdelhom1568
@matiasdelhom1568 8 жыл бұрын
oh yes definitely i agreed on that the arrow speed Will be more with less bh but as a matter of archer feel did you notice you need to do more effort to draw with a lower brace height?

Hi Gray, I’m delighted to hear that your back!!! My thanks to those who helped you out, hats off to all of you guys!! Grey I need some help. As you know I’m looking to by a bow to get in to instinctive archery. My draw length is 29 inches, what is the correct bow length I should go for? Thanks Grey

Thanks Gray. I'm still looking and it's hard to find bows over 60". I'm looking for a recurve one piece or a take down.

Gray, I just had a thought. You could make T-shirts for your fans. And write on them: In Gray we trust. !!! :-) Like: In God we trust !! I think it's a great idea. You can add them to your Archery set for a couple of extra bucks.

Hello Gray !!! It is absolutely wonderful news that you're back !!! This is very important for all your friends !! And we will always be ready to help you! :-) Gray, I have a question. It's about Bare shaft test. You say that if the arrow is too soft, then it goes to the right. But I thought that happens with not center cut bows. Arrow bends around the handle and there start to bend and go right. But if it is center cut bow this should not be. Because all power goes through the center of the arrow and the handle is not pushed the arrow in the side. So why the arrow bends? If the handle does not affect the arrow. Or this bow is not absolutely center cut? So Gray I am sorry if it is a stupid question. Thank you very much!!! :-)

***** Thank you very much for your answer, Gray !!! So, if we use a mechanical release, the archer paradox should not be at all? But the use of a mechanical release is not interested of course! interesting to make a perfect release:-) Then we can minimize Archer paradox. But probably not as important to make a perfect release, but it's important to do it the same every time. For the arrow go the same way every time, even if the release is not perfect. but on the other hand, if a very poor release it very difficult to make the same each time. so that we have the answer! Train your release !!! Is it? :-)
