I absolutely love that album & Brad's playing. He somehow kept it classic & true, while still doing his modern thing. There's a really cool vibe to that album, an almost dangerous atmosphere, that is hard to explain but exciting to listen to.

I really wasn't a fan of Brad Gillis' take on Randy's work, but he tears it up on "Speak of the Devil". He supercharges the Sabbath stuff to another level. I remember being blown away right from the start with "Symptom of the Universe". Gillis' guitar tone is just killer, so crushing. I agree, who cares if the album is touched up, seems like all live albums from that time were done the same (and if it weren't for KZbin, they still would be).

Brad Gillis breathed new life into those Sabbath songs. I respect Tony Iommi and all that he created, however Brad's take on Iommi's work just blew me away. I still play it all the time, play the version of Gillis' Paranoid, etc. I love all the whammy bar that Brad added, though not a fan of Zakk's use of whammy usage. Either way, this is one of my favorite Ozzy albums.

Hard to call it a live album when Ozzy re recorded all his vocals in the studio. Ozzys voice was gone even back in the ealry 80s .

My first concert at 15 - Ozzy w/Gillis Hartford Civic Center May 1982. I ran away from boarding school to see it. Spent the whole show watching Rudy headbang! "Look at that man. He's a different breed of human being. What must his existence be like?" At 15 I was impressionable. What a landmark night in life. You're in rare form today. Love your cultural connection with Rudy! Schmackamagob!

Probably because they didn't include any of Ozzy's solo material on the record, just the Sabbath songs. I also love that album, especially Brad's playing and tone.

I absolutely agree Ralph. This is one of my favorite episodes of your show. Ozzy Osbourne "Speak Of The Devil" is one of my top favorite albums of all time. You know I'm an obsessed Black Sabbath fan. But I still love the way Brad Gillis and Rudy Sarzo and Tommy Aldridge just kill it on this and Ozzys voice is just incredibly good too. Who cares if he resang it in the studio or not. I agree as long as the album kicks ass. I first got it in the mall when I was 10 in 1982 along with KISS "Creatures Of The Night." To really date the moment. I had just gotten out one of those inner mall theaters playing Poltergeist! But no, those are two of my favorite albums ever. But anyways I love the sound of it, Ozzy's voice sounds incredible in it and the band is so wicked. I just recently about two years ago found a guy on eBay in Canada who had a still sealed vinyl copy and sold it to me for $70! I thought it was a steal these days. I have that album in like nine formats, LP, cassette, CD, remastered CD, and the mint vinyl I bought from that guy. I ended up opening it. I couldn't help myself! It played like a dream. That's my favorite album cover too. I love "Live Evil" too but love "Speak Of The Devil" way better and I love "Live At Hammersmith! I love your points about Rudy Sarzo too! Great episode...

When I bought Speak of the Devil, I for some reason thought it was going to be Randy playing guitar. Sadly I was wrong, but I grew to love the album anyway and they put out Tribute to Randy Rhoads 5 or so years later. That was the first time I'd heard of Brad Gillis and then Night Ranger happened and it wasn't my cup of tea. Don't care Ozzy's vocals are completely live or not. It sounds great and that's what matters most to me,

Agree with you 100 percent Ralph. I have been watching a vocal coach react to heavy metal songs and she recently said Dio is one of the best heavy metal singers , if not of all genres. He was just that good....but he wasn't Ozzy. Ozzy is ( to me) the very definition of Rockstar. I am a huge fan of Speak Of The Devil and couldnt care less that Ozzy did some touch ups. He sounds fantastic and thats all that matters to me. On a side note here, im worried he isnt goung to be around much konger. I can not imagine a world without Ozzy Osbourne Take Care Wendy

Speak of the Devil is a great album. I wore it out when it was released, but as great as it is, in no way is it better than the original Sabbath versions. Now, 40 years later, I listen to Live Evil more and believe it is the better album. I'm glad to have the Hammersmith recording, but I like Live Evil better. Live Evil is my favorite version of Children of the Grave.

For the short amount of time? Speak of the Devil was awesome! Unleashed in the East by Priest is untouchable in my opinion. U.F.Os Strangers in the Night kicks much ass as well. I've no issues except when I pay hard earned money to see a band live? I with others our age...almost 60, expect a live show. I still listen to Speak of the Devil, Unleashed in the East and Strangers in the Night often. 🖕 the click tracks, AI, Lip Syncing bullshite! Mayhap I'm just old, but I remember when bands actually played live without the lazy bs. The Hammersmith show is definitely better than Live Evil.
