My worst gig F*** Up was in the 80s. An All England Hells Angels chapter had come down to the Isle of Wight to initiate a local new chapter apparently and our lead singer knew someone who knew someone who'd got us a gig with them in the field they'd hired and were all camping at - rows of gleaming Harleys and they all looked over 6ft 5" and had the usual leathers and jean jackets and either with long hair or bald with mirror glasses. You get the idea.. Anyway, we set up in the main tent and started playing and pretty much immediately they hated us, started spitting and throwing stuff at us, first just the contents, then the cans, but ended with bottles. Then they rushed the stage and we ran for our lives. They took our gear, loaded it into our van and drove it into the river. I kept a hold of my guitar (A blue Gordon Smith Gypsy II if anyone wishes to care) and scaled a few fences to make it safely back to a main road. Police refused to come out, lol. Our drummer resigned and refused to ever play live again. In fact I never saw him again after that gig, since it wasn't too long after that that I moved to London. A few people went back the next day and got "permission" from the HA to take our van and equipment away (luckily it was still operational). I have no recollection how I actually got home (I was only 17 and still living with my parents) or what I told my mum and dad hahahah. All in all it was quite a traumatic night. But we learned a valuable lesson about not letting the lead singer book any more gigs for us. The band was called the Ghetto Rockers, the lead singer was the (locally) infamous Dan Damage, and I was the guitar player, Dick Dirt. Of course this was a very long time ago. All three of the other band members are now dead, sadly. It all feels like it happened to someone else, or in a dream or something, it's such a long time ago. Dan Damage was very much a central character in the local punk and rock music scene. He was what you might call a rough diamond. It was never a dull moment with Dan around. I loved the guy, as did many others. We used to practice in the basement of an old hospital in Ryde that his father owned and that he let out rooms in. I had just lef school and was doing a part time A level in Sociology and hating it. London beckoned and I started work at Soho Soundhouse in Soho Square selling guitars - funnily enough in the very shop where I'd bought my Gordon Smith. So there's a thing. Those were the days when i ould fit i nto tight leather trousers with a 30" waist no problem lol!

up the estuary from Ryde was southampton Gaumont where in 1981 Rob Halford had arrived on stage - parked his Harley Davidson & proceeded to cooly lean against the saddle to begin singing. With that , a HA patch wearing imbecile hops out from nowhere, pushes Rob firmly in the chest ( perhaps the idiot deserves more credit for the Physics because) Rob is lifted off his feet & disappears arse over tit beyond the unsighted side of said motorcycle…. The band carried on playing as the mighty singer was helped back into his original pose or position where he continued as if nothing had happened. That’s how i remember it . I don’t remember the show really getting interrupted in spite of Robs’ unplanned aerobics ! 😃👍🐢❤️

In 1986 at Montreal, there was a double header including Celtic Frost and Voivod, IIRC (I saw a lot of shows in this period and was not always straight when I did) that turned into an engineer-borne nightmare. First, there was an horrific feedback at one point, like 5 minutes minutes long and so loud, all people (all of them metalheads) had their hands on their ears and grimaced on a background of 'EEEEEEEE'. Later, during a scarey demon-and-hell sounding guitar solo, someone accidently turned off all of the guitar effects, resulting in a short, and very loud 'BLING BLANG' of dumdum clean chords. As soon as that was heard. the whole venue had been exorcised. Ah, the good times.

The only on stage Balls Up (literally) that I witnessed was T.Rex at Sheffield City Hall in February 1974. The show opened with Bolan lying on a lighted star with his guitar. The star was more or less flat but raised up to an angle of about 45 degrees before suddenly catapulting Marc forward onto a stage extension as he launched into 20th Century Boy. Great way to open, but just one snag. Whilst Bolan landed as planned on the extension, his trousers split as his legs splayed for the landing and he spent the next 20 minutes or so with his goolies hanging out before he realised and dashed off stage for a quick change of trousers. Quite an infamous incident.

You should hear Floyd at (I think) Santa Monica 1970 where the p.a. packs in 3 times before they even get through the opener "Astronomy Domine". Rog has some nice dry comments on that little debacle. Hendrix had to abandon an entire show at Chicago Xavier University in 1968 because the uni's student radio station was amplified via his fuzz box through the Marshall stacks and rendered any music the band was trying to play completely inaudible. He dealt with the security bods' walkie-talkies at the Isle of Wight much better, setting up a dialogue with the occasional bursts of radio interference "security personnel, security personnel", playing brilliant guitar interjections, one of which is replied to with "that's fine, that's fine, thankyou". These days, of course, they just blow them up.

I have a very minor one for your list - Peter Gabriel recorded a live album that included the material from his 4th album, Security, in Kansas City. During one song he vanished behind stage on stage right and didn't reappear. Tony Levin and the band were obviously expecting him to appear from backstage on the other side but he didn't, They played through again and finally Gabriel appeared. It was a mystery, but not to me: My little brother was a fine fusion guitarist, later befriend by Allan Holdsworth, and was backstage to meet Gabriel. He was swing his hands back and forth in the semi-darkness backstage, didn't know Peter was coming and caught him in the balls on his outswing. Gabriel was bent over getting his breath during the delay. He finally looked up at Brian and say "Who are you?" and then went back onstage. Brian decided he had already met Gabriel and left :-) Both sadly gone now.

I saw U2 (UGH!) on their Pop Mart Tour in Oslo in August 1997. The band was supposed to emerge from a giant lenom on stage, but the lemon never opened. Pure Spinal Tap!

I learned about the incident with Pete Townsend from the first electric bass player I worked with long-term. John Entwistle being his hero, it made sense that the part about Pete injuring his hand would come my way through him.

Great video. Say listen, there's something I've always wanted to tell you and it goes like this. It was a while back and I think you did a video about The Beatles or about the one of the solo beatles that was negative I think that's correct and I just got all pissed off and said I can't stand this guy. Just recently I started watching your videos again and started looking at old videos and I'm thinking what the f*** is wrong with me. I took watching a video too personal. I just watched your videos about f*** ups on stage and I looked at the other one also and I'm thinking this guy is great. Maybe I was having an off day who the hell knows but I really respect your videos and like your videos. Maybe I had too many brandies that day you know what the f***. Anyway I had to get that off my chest cuz I'm an honest guy most of the time. Kregg from Arizona

I think you might be alluding to my 'Lennon & Judy Garland video'.. But in that video I was just quoting incidents from Lennon biographies. I love The Beatles, collectively and solo. ... Thank for the lovely comment

Not a fan of WASP, so I never heard that story. However, I have a new favorite rock n' roll quote from the singer, "If you wrote better songs, we wouldn't have to do all this shit". Priceless.

I was there at the Olympic Stadium in Montreal when James Hetfield accident happened, we were in a close section on the floor, we were in shock at the very moment. And later the riot happened for Guns 'N' Roses, we had been waiting over 2 hours for the band, they played 9 songs, Axl said it was over, you'll get a refund and he left, we went crazy. That was a epic night, too bad the night started really well with Faith No More opening.

I saw The Who in Vancouver 2 days after Pete impaled his hand on the whammy bar. His hand was bandaged like a mummy, but he could definitely still play and didn't seem to be off his game. He even did windmills!

A very puzzling story. I hope that you did not do the same with Pink Floyd during the 1980 Wall tour? They had a fake band start off the very first song, then sauntered on to stage and took over

I'm surprised that the Brian Jonestown Massacre didn't end up on this list twice. In the mid 1990s, and also just recently, Anton Newcombe got into a fist fight with other members of the band.

How about the magnificent entrance of Ozzy on the Bark At The Moon tour when the catapult that was used to launch an enormous pile of blood and offal into the crowd, had it's elastic unwound and dropped several hundred pounds of cattle guts, road kill and other shit right on top of him. 😂🤘

Also: Gabriel at Hammersmith 1980 doing And Through the Wire - and forgetting the line: "And through the wire I touch the power", having to improvise with a line which ended in "choice", something he probably wanted to avoid when writing the thing in the first place. Little did he know there was some bugger in the third row taking notes. A minor slip, whereas Blind Guardian deliberately rhymed "voice" with "choice" in the epic And Then There Was Silence.

Manson making his drummer do the whole "abused spouse routine/I fell into the doorknob myself" routine is actually pretty wild... You can guess there was some shit thrown at him about losing his livelihood and fame if he didn't change the story to hitting himself...
