This is a new transcription that was chosen during one of my Patron's Choice polls that I run on my Patreon site ( www.patreon.com/michaellucke ). Each month I gather suggestions from my patrons about what I should transcribe next, and then everyone votes on those and the winner gets transcribed! So, please consider supporting me over at Patreon where you get access to my entire catalog of transcriptions as well as PDFs of every new transcription I do going forward! And who knows? Your transcription suggestion might win the poll!

Hi Michael.....any chance you'd consider discussing your transcribing process? Specifically how you learned and/or improved and what tools you use. It's a bit of a black box to me and I would love to learn more about it.

Hey Michael, nice transcription! For me those first 24 bars are all being played a quaver earlier than where you've notated them.

Michael, great work, but yes @rhtranscriptions9665 is correct; the whole beginning is displaced by an 8th note. If you would shove it back one quaver (it would start on an 8th note pick up to first bar), then it would be correct. My intro and most of the head is straight from the Radiohead source, with Jonny Greenwood’s unsettling syncopated riff.

@@bradmehldau4436 Argh! I had a sneaking suspicion that he was right, but I hadn't checked it out yet. I'd heard this recording a thousand times before I sat down to write it out, so I've been hearing it wrong all along! That 9/8 bar was a surprise though! It's funny, I actually spent a long time investigating where beat 1 was during the verse. The bar that comes right after my 9/8 bar, where the vocals first enter with the half note D to B, the B on the beat 3 really feels like 1 to me. And when the melody comes in on the verse, those first notes sound so strongly like a beat 4 pickup instead of beat 2 to me. I almost wrote all of that out wrong, but I listened to several recordings, including some good cover versions, before I was finally hearing that part right! Can't win 'em all, I guess! Thanks for checking this out though and setting me straight! 😂

This is very much first music that had me removed from whatever it is that I normally am within. Myself, my train of thought, whatever. I sat there crying not sure what had happened. I think I am most excited about this video because it means more people get to hear it.

Waited for this one for such a long time Michael ! So tough, complex and accessible at the same time. It reminds me a lot the ambiences and developments that Brad used in Dreambrother and Little by Little that you transcribed too. In someway, it's also reminds me his cover of Things behind the sun by Nick Drake. I wonder that one day, you transcribe his trio cover of Sufjan Steven's song "Holland". Such a beautiful and original work of him. Anyway, thank you so much for your awesome job and of course, I bought this sheet to support you wonderful work 😀! 👏

Thank you, Rafael! Good to hear from you, and I hope you're doing well! A transcription of "Holland" might happen. I'm working on a commission of "Got Me Wrong" (from the same album) right now, and it's possible that "Holland" could come some time after that!

@@michaellucke2654 Everything is fine for me Michael and today, I put my fingers on Don't think twice it's all right ! A lot of fun to play this Mozart sonata approach on a Bob Dylan's song ! Oh my god ! Got me wrong is amazing and I listened to it so much time ! I can't wait to see it written ! I guess it will be probably easier to transcribe it than these long solo works that you did recently. Do you plan to transcribe some of Brad's recents works and especially larger compositions than solo piano or trio like what he did on Finding Gabriel and Jacob's Ladder ? Or his duet album with Chris Tiles ?

Hey man, awesome transcription! Love your work; it's great being able to see all the different melodic lines he plays. Just a quick note, wouldn't it make more sense to start the entire transcription with an eight note break? Then it lines up much more naturally and you get rid of the weird 9/8 bar. Plus, then all the chord changes happen on the first beat in each bar.

A question please? I don't speak english very well, you write "demolishes", is it a bad thing? In my language it sounds like ruine, is it? Tell me your opinion please
@abigolbug
@abigolbug 4 ай бұрын
Hey, you're right! demolish typically means to destroy or obliterate. here, however, demolished is used as a slang to say "performs an incredible version of" or excels at. maybe you've heard the more common phrase "you crushed it" used to tell someone that they've done a great job? you could also say "you destroyed" and it would have a similar meaning.

To me he does "demolish" it, or more accurately, deconstructs it and constructs it again on the piano. But I don't know if that's what ML meant. I personally have mixed feelings about this, most of them lean towards negative. I do appreciate it, but I don't like it. I wonder if anyone else feels the same, which is hard to tell since it seems KZbin encourages positive comments and hides the number of "dislike" responses. I do love the trio version of Exit Song in The Art of Trio vol. 4 as it has more passion and momentum. This one however, to my ears, is sterile.

Where is the demolishment?? There is not a chord change that's remotely interesting; a key change (several) of course. We all know he can play the piano.

If you don't hear it, maybe you can try playing it to hear the amount of voices that are going on at the same time. Brad is a genius at entering rhythmic patterns while introducing more than 2 voices at the same time using accents (they are in Michael's great transcription). I understand the piece may sound monotonous at first, however it's not a piece about flashy progressions but about harmony, complex rhythm and multiple voices sounding at the same time in perfect conjunction, or at least that's why I enjoy it so much.

@@DabaikoOkay. I'll try it again. On headphones. Maybe it will grow on me. But, I can't deny, I love when he plays his own stuff - have never been particularly impressed by his 'pop song paraphreses'.
