Just recently purchased MEHLIANA: TAMING THE DRAGON. What an amazing unique album! It so much reminded me of Progressive Rock Acts YES/KING CRIMSON/EMERSON, LAKE & PALMER. Mark Guiliana is Amazing. To me he is the modern day/21st century Buddy Rich! I wish he would make another album with BRAD MEHLDAU. I have to say Mark is the best drummer I have heard in years!

This drummer should collaborate with guys like tosin abasi. That would be righteous.

I wonder what bassdrum head he's using, it sounds great. I'm absolutely in love with this music, it's the most inspiring thing i have heard in a long time. Thanks Mark for such a beautiful experience!

He plays on the drum kits that are the place where he's having the gig. Heads are different every day. He just tunes very well.

Looks like a Wurlitzer, probably from the 200 series. If you find a "student model" it'll be just about the same thing, and they're much more common. They sound awesome... especially when played by Brad Mehldau, who would sound great playing a summer squash carved crudely into the shape of a keyboard by an arts-and-crafts class at a retirement home.

I dig the Benevento Russo duo - I really do. But comparing them to this music and the level of sophistication that's reached here is sort of like comparing J.S. Bach to Cletus the slack-jawed yokel.
