I read every Ray Bradbury story as a child...and it's such a treat to hear them acted out. Television and movies are destroying the magic AND horrors that can only be "seen" in our own imaginations.

Mr. Bradbury was a huge part of forming my world view, starting in jr. high school and high school. ('75 grad). He is also one of the best American writers to have lived. His written stories are much better, as external exposition is often awkward. For this series he wrote the adaptations, which helps, but the stories on page are always better.

I disagree, I often find his written prose awkward, but you're right that he was a brilliant creator and we're tremendously in his debt.

One of the best stories I've ever read. Unfortunately, movies and plays never do justice to original writings and the same can be said about this play. If you really want to experience The Wind in its full glory, read it by yourself in a darkened room while the wind is blowing outside and you're by yourself. You may have to wait a few months for that perfect weather but it's totally worth it. One of the most frightening stories you'll ever experience.

You have to admit - this dramatization is pretty good, I recommend it to those youngsters who would rather play GTA instead of read really good literature. - Sometimes it even works. - But I have to agree with you, on a windy stormy night, in a darkened environment, with just enough light to read - get cozy, and have some brandy handy ...

+Cyan Blackflower Yup, gaming culture has made people lazy. I'm an audiophile in his 40's and I prefer either reading or listening to great novels than watching (or playing) TV. Your mind expands a lot more.

Man.... I’d love to have heard or read a sequel to this wonderful story where we see what happens to Herb Thompson and his wife - and their newfound experiences with Allen’s Wind.

The most powerful part of this video is the call where the window breaks. I can perfectly picture Herb's face as Alan's terrifying description builds, and Herb is getting steadily and visibly more horrified, until he finally can't take it anymore. He knows it isn't real, which is why he has enough brain function to be able to say "call back in an hour", but emotionally all he can think about is ending the call asap, so he gets a moment of respite from the dread which Alan's story is building within him. It's like running from a cheetah and tripping your friend; it's not that you want him to die, maybe you'll yell out "see you back at the boat" or whatever, but at that exact second, you have to make sure that you get away.

It was a a bequest of $200 million from the estate of philanthropist Joan Kroc to NPR. NPR does not fund the member stations. They have to raise money to stay on the air and provide local news and programs. If you know of a better system than begging tell your local station.

This story is enjoyable enough if taken literally as a supernatural horror parable, but except for the ending, it's highly possible to see it as a completely realistic story of a traumatized survivor struggling with mental illness and isolation.

I usually like these kinds of stories, but this was ridiculous. I couldn't believe it took Herb almost 14 mins to hang up on that nut. And then, the way he carried on about him at dinner, he might as well have left his wife to go "marry" Alan. Sheesh, what a couple of weirdos.
