2:03 that does not look right, each Hot (Line) terminal of each duplex is joined by that one red wire between the duplex Hot terminals and then the other Red wire goes to the PCB, so each Hot (LIne) of each duplex is not connected to proper L1 and L2. Am I seeing it correctly? If you measure AC Voltage between the Hot terminal of each duplex, do you get 240VAC?
@davebruessow68422 ай бұрын
I actually like the idea of the universal 240 volt outlet. It's like a NEMA 5-15/6-15 in one, allowing you to use either type plug (great idea) when necessary/in a pinch. I'd really like to see what the sine wave looks like though...

Would one of the enphase inverters initialize if connected to 240v? If so....when there's a balanced load on each leg (or a consistent 240v load like an immersion heating element), does the load shown by the inverter drop by the enphase input?

Fans come on every four minutes for about fifteen seconds and are very loud on my 3500W (must be on a timer). They scared me/loud like your yard blower. Also the display comes on randomly and constantly. Power-wise it seems to have a low self-consumption@idle rate (about 14W according to my shunt) and runs everything so far, but I haven't really pushed it either. Going to hook up a 12k btu window A/C unit (possibly two of them) and give it the torture test later today... OK, now I've tested this with a 12k BTU Midea U-shaped window A/C unit plugged in and running, and immediately noticed a high pitch/high frequency tone emitting from the inverter (very evident). It handles the load (no problem) though. Going to plug in the second one... Yep, no problem running both but fans run constantly/loudly and draining my 100ah battery bank pretty quick (not enough solar to keep up). You will want this unit mounted next to your charger and batteries, away from your living space, due to all the noise (which is required by law anyways). I've got til November 15th to fully bake this thing and decide if I want to keep it or not (Amazon policy)...

What is the use case for this at 240v and only 3000W? I don't think this would handle the in-rush of my well pump or a/c, and all my other 240v household loads are much higher 4500W+.

I am think it is just for powering a small house/cabin panel that has breakers on both legs 120/120v. I am not running anything in my cabin that requires 240v but need both legs powered for upstairs lighting. I am thinking about getting one of these as the price and power consumption from the EG4 split phase is both kind of high.
@howardwrentworth3359 Жыл бұрын
3000w is enough to run a mini split, especially the newer high efficiency models.
@curtchase37302 ай бұрын
Agree. Any device that requires 240 is usually a serious load. Range, water heater, well pump, central A/C, etc. I wouldn't think an inverter of this wattage (3000) would be practical for real world use, except for the sole purpose of mimicking a standard grid format of 120v on each leg to neutral and 240 across each leg. I'd say a split phase inverter over 10Kw would be the smallest I could see, if equipped with the proper supporting power supply, could run a small home including that well pump, A/C etc. .
@mountaindan18402 ай бұрын
I would expect this inverter to handle a 1 or 1 .5 ton inverter mini split with no problem. Maybe two eyes on a range. A small water heater. Well pumps and anything with an electric motor will be a challenge due to inrush current. Even a 120 v washer may give it trouble if other loads are on.

Were the neutral and ground bonded?
@PWoods-cd6tk Жыл бұрын
The anti spark feature is pretty cool. Did you say the neutral and the ground are not bonded together inside? So this could be plugged directly into a manual transfer switch at home?
@BradCagle Жыл бұрын
I measured no continuity between the neutral and the ground lugs, so it seems it's not internally bonded. I did later measure some AC voltage between the neutral, and ground so I need to figure out if a ground/neutral bond is acceptable on this unit. Because using a generator transfer switch would eventually cause a bond since there is bonding in the panel right?
@PWoods-cd6tk Жыл бұрын
All I know is that you only want one ground neutral bond and that is typically in your main panel. I think this one would work. I see people stick in regular inverters into their transfer switches anyway without any consequences. Thanks for the video I really appreciate it.

The bit that's making me hesitate on buying this inverter is in the Amazon QA for the device. From the page, "The hardwire terminal can connect to the circuit panel in the house directly to get 120VAC or 240VAC, L1 for live, N for neutral, L2 for live, G for ground. L1+L2=240V, L1+N=120V, L2+N=120V. Note: can not L1+N+L2 at the same time!!!". The first two points seem to make sense, but then the note doesn't. I thought you were supposed to put L1 & L2 into a double pole breaker, land the neutral and ground on the neutral and ground bars, job done, but the note reads like don't do that. Hoping you have some insight, or can hook it to an off grid sub panel or something in another video. What I'm hoping is the 'note' is nonsense and one wires up as I suggested.
@BradCagle Жыл бұрын
Hmm, that's a very strange note. So seems to be saying Don't use 240v, and 120v at the same time? I need to revisit this thing. I haven't used it since the video.

I just picked up a 24v 4000w model and will be testing for a panel install. Interesting you brought that up in the manual. The Universal 240 outlet has 2 hots @ 120 ea. and the ground is connected to the case ground, terminal and 120v outlet grounds. If you install with a panel the grounds will become neutral bonded and the Universal socket will have 220 and two 120 legs potentially. I have tested a few of these WZRELB 120v inverters and they are running fine with earth ground neutral panel connections as long as you check the 120v outlets that can have polarity issues. .
