I'm a proud Bradfordian, you've shown the city as it is, not the crap that is usually seen in many videos. Nice to see the truth for a change as anyone can dig up rough parts of any big city. I've subscribed to your channel, your latest video on Rotherham was a sad walk, that place needs investment in a big way. As you can see, Bradford has a good city centre with some impressive Victorian architecture.

@Dion_Mustard2 жыл бұрын
My birth place - and my grandma lived here for many years in the Shipley area - therefore this place holds some precious memories. I know Bradford has MANY downsides BUT I love Baildon Moor (Shipley Glen) and Salts Mill is beautiful. So I guess with everything in life (and every place) there are good and bad points. I love the multi-cultural aspect of Bradford. I am white British male but I love the Pakistani community in Bradford. They stick together and are very kind people.
@GimbalWalkTV2 жыл бұрын
Well said! That’s so true and it’s great to hear it from a white British person 👍 (I’m white British too)
@ChrisW4442 жыл бұрын
They definitely stick together, surely that is not a good thing. Division is not good. Integration is what is needed in Bradford and that is something that will never happen with a labour council which sadly is still in situ and bringing the City to it's knees. It would be great to have an inclusive society where all cultures meet in the middle (most people I know are open to that and love to integrate), enjoy and help the city to prosper. Step up the council that then prevent this happening when the vast majority want to see it and Bradford continues the go down hill, despite being beautiful and having so much to offer.
@Dion_Mustard2 жыл бұрын
@@ChrisW444 well there is integration in the sense that all colours and faiths go out for meals at the curry houses and it seems very friendly and genuine kindness . But if you mean integration with the faiths , that will not happen as non Muslims or non religious will not want to become Muslim. I think there is big segregation but equally a good amount of integrating in the business sense.
@joseph18452 жыл бұрын
@@Dion_Mustard Muslims are taught as per their religion that you don't get close to non-believers. I haven't had a good experience with Pakistanis growing up in Bradford.

We really enjoyed this video, we are from Bradford but left 12 years ago. The centre has been improved since we left, the Broadway centre was just a big hole when we left. City hall is well worth a visit its my favourite building in Bradford. The Police museum has the court room that is often used to film court scenes in Emmerdale and Coronation Street. You are correct about the building up Sunbridge road once was a co-op called Sunwin House, I worked there many years ago.

Excellent video, brilliant walk that. As you can see Bradford has a great city centre, the architecture is stunning. You walked past Sunbridgewells, that is worth a video on its own. A quirky underground collection of bars and restaurants with some small independent retail outlets. You may have noticed British Gas digging up the beautiful stone in the pedestrian walk ways, the tarmac is temporary and will be replaced with similar stone work.

@@Dion_Mustard it’s a big lump of a thing but it lacks regal statues, and let’s not forget that Titus Salt wasn’t really a great benefactor, he was a dictator. He held his employees in thrall for the sake of housing and a slightly longer life expectancy than you’d get in Bradford. Didn't expect that. Fantastic video, thank you for the treasured memory of Billy Liar. I was 14 years old when the film crew came to Leeds. The derelict area where I lived, looked like a war zone. Viva Fisher! was plastered every where. In the background was my old school, Green Lane, New Wortley. My birth place, and that of James Milner (Former Leeds Utd; Liverpool player)
@GimbalWalkTV2 жыл бұрын
Wow thank you Tony What was the viva fisher meaning?
@tonytanner82032 жыл бұрын
@@GimbalWalkTV Thanks for liking and replying to my post. Billy Liar was the name of the film but the characters name was Billy Fisher.. (Played by a very young Tom Courtney) He was basically a day dreamer in the film and he fantasized, over the kind of relationships he wanted to be in with certain women who were amongst his neighbours. whilst in a daze, his dreaming would be showed on screen. On one occasion he dreamed that he was a war hero, rescuing a town from the wicked foe. The area where I lived was going through changes after the war. The houses were being knocked down and people were being moved out of the area. As a result it looked like a war zone. Derelict, piles of bricks where there used to be houses. On some of the houses that were empty and only half pulled down were this graffiti, "Viva Fisher" every where in an appreciation of his waring capacity to defeat the enemy whilst fanaticising of the locals trying to mob him. When the filming was over, that graffiti stayed on the walls for nearly a year afterwards. In the filming you can see my school in the background. Happy days growing up.

Nice to see a walk through of my home city. Beautiful architecture with some horrendous brutalist examples sitting uncomfortably amongst it - yes Kirkgate Centre I'm talking about you! It's great to see ongoing investment, particularly with the new market - which you missed - Bradford Live and the Grade A office development in City Park. Other areas worth taking in is the subterranean complex of Sunbridge Wells. It's a bit like a museum itself with some great Bradford memorabilia in the place and full of character. North Parade is another street to take in. Again some great architecture - Penny Bank for example - and is full of independent bars, shops and leisure facilities. If you do video inside buildings, then capturing footage of the inside of the Waterstones store at the Wool Exchange is well worth it. Rated as one of the best book shops in the world! Thanks for the great video. Enjoyed watching it 👍

It looks like there have been many old buildings demolished, streets areas turned into walkways only and new modem buildings put up. I don't recognise any of it at all. Commentary would be useful, explaining changes and what the old buildings still standing were used for would be helpful. E.g. where's the old ice skating rink, where are the cathedrals, the old very imposing police station, the old markets - various sections. And the main bus terminal of the 1960s ?
