I remember the trolley buses well. They came along every twenty minutes, very quiet, very reliable and always on time . Wish we still had them.

Alas, still no trolley buses in 2019. Even the old catenary poles have now been replaced with generic lamp posts. How far we have come :-/ Bradford suffered badly in the 1960s and 70s, so much of its original heart and soul torn down and lost forever. Very sad.

I wish some British cities would have been able to preserve their trolleybus networks. They would be a real asset now and for the future, to increase green and clean transport. It would be so cool to ride even in contemporary style double-deck trolleys! Something that is not possible of course in those continental cities, that kept their trolleybus networks, where now all modern vehicles of course are either single units or bendy buses. This film has a lot of nostalgic flair, thanks for sharing it! :)

Some legacies of the trolley buses can still be found. The really wide bit of road pictured at Wibsey and at Crossflatts just beyond Bingley as well as the recently replaced small roundabout at Saltaire required to allow the turning circle of the trolley bus due to the overhead wires.

Wow it's great to see saltaire,Shipley and Leeds rd in the 1960s! Everything looked so clean and the roads non cluttered with signs, bollards etc. It's also nice to see Bradford in what appears to be the early to mid 1990s in those clips. Such a shame the city has gone so downhill now, real shame!

Bradford, had you kept your trolley buses another year past the Oil Embargo of '73, you still might have had them today. Eliminating trams and trolley buses: BIG mistake, Britain!

I was born and bread in Bradford - would have been about 6 when the trolleys stopped running. My dad worked on them and the subsequent petrol ones as a conductor - I have a few memories of going with him to the depot a few times. Bradford was much nicer then - today it really isn't fit for human habitation. I moved out to the coast 25 years ago and refuse point blank to 'be seen dead' there ever again lol. Enjoyed the vid a lot - cheers !
