Green river is song about Putah Creek that runs right next to Winters, Ca the town I live in. Old Cody was Bill Cody and I worked for him for a little bit at Cody's Liquor Store here in town. John Fogerty use to come and fish while he camped up the road. We have a bar called the green river saloon. I never did meet John Fogerty as this was before my time here in town.

As a country boy, that last verse always resonated with me. The song is so light and nostalgic, but then the ending is kind of ominous. The old man warning him he’s gonna grow up and go out into the world with big dreams and goals, but he’s going to find a world in chaos and confusion. And the best advice ever- when you get lost, go back to the simple things like home and friends and family.

This song evokes such poignant memories of my early childhood. My father was the first to discover CCR in my family and he loved their music and bought several of their albums (up to 1970's Cosmo's Factory). This song was the title track of the 1969 album, "Green River." Some of my fondest childhood memories were spent in southern Vermont, where my family had an A-frame cabin. While I know that the Green River that John Fogerty sang about is elsewhere, there is a Green River that wends its way around Southern Vermont and northwestern Massachusets. I remember spending time there with my family and some of my parents' friends. Images of a covered bridge, and a dairy farm on the other side of the river fill my memories. This song reminds me both of that magical place as as well as my father, who's been gone for 20 years.

There is a Green River in Williamstown MA right on the VT border. The road that connects Rt 2 and Rt 7 we've always called Green River rd. I always thought Green River emptied into the Hoosic River which flows North oddly enough. There is a conspicuous A-frame on Rt. 7 between Williamstown and Bennington VT. I wonder if that's the one you lived in. Small world

God damn! Now that is just a song that slaps. That's how you do a song like that. Like it's so perfect for what it is, short, concise, catchy hook, moving beat and vibe, hunting vocals, pulsating and all around great musicianship and it just keeps moving the song forward and then it's done.

The back and forth you two have and the super unique things you say. Love it. Fun Fact about CCR: John Fogerty was actually born and raised and spent most of his life in the San Francisco Bay Area. He definitely channeled some genuine deep south vibes, I mean, really channeled it. Its always a marvel to me when I listen to CCR and then remember none of them ever spent much time in the South.
