I'm a 58 year old white boy and relate with Brad so much. He reminds me of me when I was young. Sometimes you don't feel worthy even when you are but can't see it. I'm so glad you guys are doing so well.

Lou was just singing straight up I'm a DWB. As a huge fane of Foreigner he makes several references to being "dirty" for instance in Hot Blooded is all about that groupie love after the show. Props to Brad for saying "I can relate because I'm a dirty black boy" Hey it must be working for Brad because he has a hottie and a baby on the way with her. 👍

Brad - that may be your reaction to the song. And I understand your feelings. But I’m a 59 yr old white women. I follow you and your beautiful wife. You are far from a dirty black boy. All boys in youth are looking to make a statement to push boundaries. Sometimes leads to trouble. That’s called learning. Anyone would be proud of you for a son in law.

I would hardly classify the great Lou Gramm as underrated as most of my friends in high school when their debut album was released thought he was awesome. He will forever be my all-time favorite male rock vocalist and he was simply spectacular during his prime. Lou's also an incredibly nice guy...humble and soft-spoken and very much a blue collar guy who never forgot where he came from.

This song was from the "Head Games" album which was a rocker. The Bible belt wanted this song (and the album) banned because they thought it was racist, and the album cover was to them "objectionable." but Lou Graham & Mick Jones wrote it about Elvis Presley

I believe the meaning of Dirty White Boy is from the Old South. It has two meanings: one a whiteboy who could play the blues and or a white boy who likes black girls.

I saw them play on their tour for their "4" album at the old Spectrum in Philly. When they played this live, they did a long extended outro, and drove the crowd into a frenzy....the place was going wild and they blew the roof off the place.
@hondaphan4172 Жыл бұрын
I was at the Spectrum that weekend during their 4 tour. They played three sold-out shows on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. Do you remember which night that you were there? I was there for their final show on Sunday night...Billy Squirer opened. I really miss the Spectrum. Yeah, the concourse level was tight and it lacked ammenities by today's standards but once in your seat I much preferred it over the Wells Fargo Center. I would imagine Boston feels the same way about the Boston Garden.

I think Brad hit the nail on the head in regards to the message of the song. If I’m not mistaken ( and I might be) the “dirty white boy” lyric was inspired by an Elvis quote. Or not. It rocks anyway.
@Stormeyworld Жыл бұрын
You are right. It had to do with Elvis Presley. 🙂 Songfacts: Who was the "Dirty White Boy"? Mick: For me, it was Elvis Presley. To me, he always was that dirty white boy who changed the shape of music completely. It was talking about the kind of heritage that he left, and I think that had an effect on all the musicians that came after, like Mick Jagger - he was also a dirty white boy. Elvis paved the way for all that.
