Loverboy was in heavy rotation in the 80s on MTV and they ruled the waves for a while at the time. And yes, the title to the song was one that resonated with everyone back then because the 80s was all about working for the weekend.

Loverboy and ZZ Top came to a town near me many moons ago. I bought tickets for me, my mom, my step dad, and my girlfriend. We all knew both bands, but only to varying degrees. When we got to the concert, we realized that we all knew the words to practically every song both bands played. A lot of nostalgia paints the past with gold, but it was a pretty mindblowing show with all factors in play.

I saw Loverboy in concert and liked them, they were opening for somebody else. But this particular song got played so constantly on the radio I got sick of it. This is the first time listening to it and literally decades and it really is a pretty good song. I think they set one tone to talk about just trying to get through the week and the relationship stuff and then it goes up into that major key positive surge to represent the feeling of it's finally the weekend.

Yes, in my punk-ass youth we called this 'simple' while chomping on more intricate and heavier rock. Now that I'm older I still find it simple, but also well structured, easy to follow with pleasant chord changes and a leaning towards the beat. Plus the lyrics are very positive. I had to add after hearing end discussion that the differences in the writing between Dean and Reno are quite stark. Reno leans towards the major scales while Dean's guitar parts hit a lot of minor scales in his contributing parts. You can pick this up in the Lennon/McCartney writing as well as others.
