With regards to the convo at the end, I don't know what the US is like but certainly in the UK most of the people who were deep in the various subgenres still dress mostly or exclusively like they did back when - I see plenty of old goths, punks, metal heads, emos etc about, in their 30s/40s/50s/etc... I know of plenty of old goths who still decorate their houses like it's Halloween every day! I've toned things down but you rarely see me out of black and I'm 50 :) With many subgenres over here, it was a way of life and an expression of who you were, not just a passing phase or fashion statement, and that inner ethos and ideals - the outlook on life - rarely changes I find.

The title of the song is the entire meaning, reflected in lyrical images about what it feels like to miss someone. The video is just showing the beauty in darkness through the mixed emotions we encounter when missing the one. It could also be interpreted that it's talking about someone you've lost and the emotions that we go through once they're gone.

Blink 182 basically brings me back to high school and early college. And this song particular hits a chord bc this album and single came out right when a good friend of mine died in a car accident at 19. This album just came out and this song and “I’m lost without you” bring me back to that time. The whole self titled album is great but unlike a lot of their upbeat stuff, has more of an overall somber message in many of the songs on it. Overall a great album and a great band to explore.

emo and goth are different. They both have cultural origins within Punk music but emo started to appear in the 90s whereas goth started way earlier in the late 70s/early 80s. Blink are more a pop punk band but this definitely has an emo flavour. On lex's comment on goth being a little more chill is a bit off lots of goth music is just as chaotic as other subgenres and genres originating from punk. To understand what I mean by the 'chaotic' goth sound I highly recommend listening to "double dare" by Bauhaus and "killer K'" by Sex Gang Children.
