My First FDL-3 Nerf War Gameplay

My first time playing with the FDL-3 at a Nerf war. I'm still very new to flywheel blaster gameplay. The gametype was Team Deathmatch where the team who dies the most loses.

It's the polar opposite of playing with a springer, in future I'll try and get a lot closer to my targets. Will take time to learn how best to play with it.

Close range is your ally. With an FDL 3 you’ll be able to trample over any springer in shorter range. Rushing with a flywheeler can also be extremely effective. Close the distance make them panic.

Great video man! As some have said already, closing that engagement range to about 65f-75ft is the sweet spot for the blaster. 100+ are difficult and heavily dependant on wind conditions. But man it's great to see how accurate this can be in your hands, cheers!

Hmm, you're using the fdl as if it's a springer/sniper. Most people use it as a shotgun/autorifle, where you close the distance by dodging/weaving at speed and then unload in full-auto or 3 round bursts when the other is in range. Having a mag at the ready in your stock helps the quick reloads as well as jungle taping mags together in twos. But yeah, flywheelers do play different from springers

Don’t treat it like a springer, you have to play super aggressively. Don’t trade shots with springers. Run at them in strange patterns so they can’t lead their shots on you.

Less stalking, more IMT. While the FDL may be about as accurate as flywheel blasters get, you're probably going to lose at stand off distances against an accurized spring air the majority of the time against anyone who is a decent shot, or you'll run out of darts trying to lay down suppressive fire at longer ranges. You'll have to move a lot more with a flywheel set up and will probably want to switch to a reflex/red dot sight for quicker target acquisition.

You might want to focus on trigger discipline a bit. Using flywheelers makes it easy to mag dump, but that's almost never the best tactic. Great video, I'm excited to see more FDL footage in the future.

I wanna offer some editing critique, similar I gave to Aldoss. Show, don't tell... unless you absolutely have to. At 1:53 you're explaining what IS happening on screen, it takes the viewer out of the moment, breaks the flow of the action also the setup & payoff of tension. The only info the viewer needed was that the players across the way are teammates and you were going to synchronize your attack. To indicate they are your team add a quick and small "Red team" arrow above their heads, like you see in battlefield. If the audio of your teammate was too low, add a quick subtitle for the most important information. Novritsch does this too and not just for translations. Also when he does do voice overs it's concise, with as few words, and as understandably quick as possible. Next when you shoot the first guy, you slow down the framerate and add a hit indicator. We physically see the hit and the indicator tells us it counted, so voice over is redundant and unnecessary. Don't over use or over stretch slowmo. As a rule of thumb I don't slow down a framerate below 24fps. Here you're using 60fps recording at 4x slow and the resulting 15fps is choppy. 30fps can definitely do in a 60fps project and it looks smooth but this is too far. And if you think about it, showing the same frame 4 times doesn't add more information back into the scene. Slowmo is used to make fast objects perceivable, even if you can record 120 or 240fps, if the fast objects moves too slow then it loses the sense of speed. The same can be said about over using slowmo, if there is too much peeps get bored. So my other rule is only use slowmo on darts that hit or when it necessary because the scene is so hectic. In this shootout, from the first tag to missing Ashley, it takes 16 seconds and doesn't feel like a desperate shootout. Though that might also be because it's 4x and not 2x. However the next guy you shoot in the foot, slowing all the missed shots wasn't needs and it's another 16 seconds of wait for the scene to play out. Hope this made sense and was helpful maybe. You've got clear footage of good gameplay and I see the effort you put in, just want it to be as good as possible so I'm excited to watch it. Editing is the hardest part. You gotta cut the fat and kill your creative babies; let go and get out of the way for the story, it's where soul and style of a video is forged. Hope to see more awesome Brad. -Justin

I don't have any kind of film education so it is truly appreciated when someone with more knowledge shares some advice. I'll take this info on board for future videos. What would you suggest doing to explain the gametype to people at the start of the video? Is that fine to do?

In general flywheel blasters are more expensive than spring blasters so I doubt you'll find a good one for that price.

The noise is from the motors, it's entirely mechanical so no there is not. It's one of many reasons I don't like flywheel blasters.

Maybe use this Fdl then use a adventure force pro aeon for the longer range shots it is a spring pistol that does like 150 FPS. There is a rifle that shoots 160 FPS called the nexus pro but you can change the back plate on the rear to put a spacer on the spring get an instant 175 FPS average then putting a 1 foot brass barrel gets you over 200 FPS and they are super accurate half length darts they come with
