I see you and a lot of other pros overbet the river with the best hand and the villain folds, instead of betting smaller and getting paid off (example your flopped straight and pocket kings hand). Isn't it better to bet for some value, like several hundred dollars instead? I see pros doing this all the time and rarely ever get paid off. Is it worth it for those off times it does pay off?

It's to give big bluffs credibility later on
@oliverbarton73533 жыл бұрын
There certainly are situations where it is worth it for the times it does pay off. Take an example of 2 bet sizes, both for value, into a 1k pot. Size 1 you bet 200, and get called 80% of the time. Size 2 you bet 1.5k but only get called 20% of the time. While Size 1 works more consistently, if you run that spot 100 times you will make almost double the money using Size 2 (80 x 200 = 16k, 20 x 1.5k = 30k). The other advantage of Size 2, as others have said, is that it protects your range and allows you to bluff for that sizing, which will work at a high frequency. People are often too scared of losing value with their big hands, but it's important to remember that these big overbets only need to work a fraction of the time to deliver impressive results.
@russelld29253 жыл бұрын
It balances out in the long run. It allows them to over bet bluff. If you bet small on river you will almost always get called. You need a balanced river overbet range.
@joeyp30943 жыл бұрын
I think you could consistently go the value bet path assuming you have value 60% bluffs 40%. If you overbluff then it might be a problem.

What I like a very much and appreciate about your vlogs is the you do show your losing sessions along with your winners. The overwhelming majority of poker vlogs only show winning hands and sessions to make you think the player is a rockstar. Reality is, even the best players go card dead and have losing sessions. In that hand with the a5 of clubs I liked to check with the intention of raising high or all in if the opponent bets, if he checks back you get a free look at that last card to see if you hit your flush, and if he bets then your shove makes it look like you were trying to induce for value. You do give HIM a chance to shove which would make a decision to fold easier and looking at the size of the bet if he bets without shoving can give you more information about how strong his hand is, especially if you've gotten some reads in the session of how he plays certain hands.

When you say the A5 suited hand didn't work out, you have to remember that you are playing that hand that way to mirror GTO. GTO isn't about any single hand, its about your whole range of hands and some of the hands in your range beat QQ. Next time you make that play in a similar spot you might have JJ, AA, or KK and stack him. And on top of that you got your money back to set up that play in the future! Seems like it worked out great to me.
@gs68103 жыл бұрын
Not to mention 500k people are going to see you take $5000, 3 bet A5, and then fire flop and over bet turn with ace high. Seems like a win to me.
