Easiest thing in the world to grow .Started 2 of them last summer ,they are now 4 foot tall and about 4 foot wide .I brought it in last winter and it has really grown over the winter .I have always been told you have to keep the cup wet .I have started many and I usually give them away . Easy to grow I am going to put it in the ground when it warms up .I have never fertilzed them and I don't use special soil .Just basic potting soil .

My first two soil attempts failed,I set the top in a bowl of water and actually it started to grow beautifully,I left it in the bowl for several months,out on my screened in lanai in just plain water,it's huge!!!!I planted it into a container and I'm ready for it to fruit.:) Great Videos!

If the stem is rising above the pot the plant will become wobbly again as the plant grows and the weight of the leaves becomes too heavy. The best way I've found to repot them is keep the lower leaves and rest them on the top edge of the pot, even burying some of the lower leaves if necessary. That gives them the needed support.

I have been growing my pineapple 🍍 for 33 months. Still no sign of a pineapple. Any ideas?? Do I need to continue to be patient. It’s in a 5 gallon pot and I live in Charleston South Carolina. I bring it in during cold spells and set it during warm spells during the winter. Any ideas?

Hey Brad, just found your videos and as an avid Orchid grower, thank you so much for your info! I just repotted a very sickly Phalaenopsis, and after watching your video, was glad to see I did it correctly. Mine was mired in one of those plastic pots inserted into a non draining vessel. Watching it carefully and hoping for the best. I used bark mixed with peat moss, bone meal, and compost with gypsum. I've never tried Pineapple but will after watching this video!! :) :)

Donald Smith, I live in Florida as well, up in horse country. What part of the state are you located? We do get some cooler weather so I am putting a hoop house over my pineapples in the next two weeks. Would like some feedback from you on your methods and whether yours get any cold weather. ~Nancy

If it is grown from the one he got from the store it takes about three years to grow the fruit. Yes it needs a much bigger pot and then it may grow a fruit. If it comes from a slip is grows in 18 months.

Biggest trick for starting grocery pineapples is having a good look at the growth stem inside the leafs for mold/rot, most i’ve looked through have stem rot right from the store from the tag piercing through the stem

Try starting your top in water, I have 12 pineapples growing in various stages. *My largest one has already given me a delicious pineapple & now that one is on its way to giving pineapples too. Once the root system takes in water, transplant to a small pot. Peat moss/perlite&sandPut it on a tray of rocks with water (their native environment humid). Once they've outgrown their pot, repot in a larger pot & watch it EXPLODE in growth. 5 gallon buckets are a good option & cheap. *Make sure you get all of the fruit off of the top before putting it in water, don't be afraid to cut some of the base off & peel off a few layers of leaves. If you have some rooting hormone, fill the water to just where the tip is submerged, and I mean barely covering it but definitely submerged. dip that top into the hormone then place in: a red solo cup, a water bottle cut in half or a glass jar...then keep it in bright but indirect sunlight. Change that water every 2-3 days! Best of luck!

@SolHeizer
@SolHeizer 4 жыл бұрын
I have at least 3 or 4 pineapple plants on my lanai at any given time; the water method is great. You can use a water bottle with the top cut off and toothpicks or even a peanut butter jar. Use some rooting hormone and change the water with non tap water (rain water is ideal). The other method that has worked great for when I take the suckers off is to peel off a few leaves from the bottom (give yourself a “flat surface” and put in ALL PERLITE. No soil, composite, etc. A sterile environment while those tiny little roots are forming. Also, I always cut any fruit away from the bottom of the pineapple top (make sense?) before dipping a into rooting hormone if on hand and use the water method or perlite method. When choosing a pineapple at the store, choose one that has the most gold so you’ll have a healthy mature pineapple to eat then grow. Keep track of what works best for you & what doesn’t. Good luck

Hey Bruh, love you passion man. Wow, you crafted what looks to be a very well draining soil, great job. I was wondering if your pineapple plant would be happier in a much larger pot. Not sure of the right size, I would try a 12 liter container. Thanks for the great videos.

@@dianepicard6198 As I'm new to pineapple growing as well, this is advice that has been given to me. For the slices, probably wait until early May (northern hemisphere) I have been told to then enclose the plant in a plastic bag to keep the apple decaying "vapor" within the plant, but think that maybe a bit drastic for where I live in Western Australia, as our summers can be in the mid 40c and it probably wouldn't take long for the plant to stress. I have 4 plants in pots that are growing very quickly, (now end of summer going into autumn) These were potted 6 months ago and are now in 250mm pots...10inch? and I have 4 more in glass jars taking root so give it another week and they will be ready to pot. Just remember your pineapple will only fruit once then slowly die off but, will develop "babies" at the base so maintain the "mother"plant until the smaller ones are ready to transplant. Let me know how you get on, you might be able to give me some tips.

What are you doing to the roots!!? If you're going to re-pot the roots, use super thrive, and transplant into a bigger pot. You just shocked the plant. I had to do this once because I had grubs in my soil (a con of growing in mulch outdoor). Noticed one of my plants wasn't growing right while feeding it the same as all the other plants with the same grow medium. Those grubs love eating pineapple roots. The bigger the pot, the bigger the plant, the bigger the fruit.

You can put some foam squares on the tip of those sharp leaves to protect yourself as a reminder and you can be as creative with those squares if you like ;). It works well with the succulent family-like agaves etc) - if the plant is distressed especially when you just planted it in the soil for the first time if you rooted it in water which is the best option and just like succulents will transform into different coloring, some transform into pinky-red some more orangy but it is spectacular. I live in the Southern hemisphere and planted mine into the soil in December when it is really hot and dry (I live in a semi dessert in RSA) and the coloring took my breath away it was almost like having your own fireworks in the garden to admire.
