My pinguiculas just arrived today! Can’t wait to plant them now after watching your informative video.

Vivien Lee excellent! You have lots to plant up! Thanks for the order 😊

Excellent! I just got a Gigantea, Alfred Lau #13 and a 'Aphrodite'! Also just received a 'King Henry" and 'DCXL' Flytrap! BTW, Mexican pings can be grown all year long in normal light and wetness. They don't have a dormancy but will make succulant leaves if they get too dry and not enough light.

It's a weird topic, some people agreed with your method and others tell me BONE dry in the winter... I go with a happy medium.... It seems to work.

Brads Greenhouse & Gardening Nice plants! Bone dry is okay for the ones that have distinct summer and winter leaves, if you have high humidity (like 80%), otherwise letting them stay just moist as you’re doing is perfect. Some don’t have distinct winter forms (agnata, gigantea for example) but still like to go a little drier. emarginata doesn’t have any dormancy at all so if you grow that, you can keep it moist all year round. The first moranensis you show is moranensis J. laueana mostly blooms in winter, at least for me. It also makes really nice hybrids!

where did you get your butterworts from?
@BradsGreenhouse10 жыл бұрын
No one place, some trades, some bought. A friend started me with about 6-8 all at once.

I am interested in buying these. Did you originally start yours from seed? they go dormant and come back on a yearly basis or would we need to sow from seed every yr? Thank you for the information.
@GarrettSpring10 жыл бұрын
Oh, brad gypsicola like it very dry not sure if that is true with the cross but especially when in dormancy they can rot if kept to wet

I'm not having a whole lot of luck getting my pings to bloom. They look super healthy and are always covered in gnats but never have any flowers. It's pretty hot and dry in the summer where I live, but i spray them almost every day and keep the substrate moist. Any thoughts?

I tried to grow Pinguicula vulgaris from seed. Nothing sprouted, winter wasted. The seeds aren't there anymore either. I hope I can find a supplier for these plants one day. Where did you get yours Brad? I am somewhat desperate to find the Ping vulgaris.

Your are in Canada right? I went to Frasier Thimble farms here in BC. I try to make a trip there once a year. They have a website, no idea what stock is really on the list they have but if it is still in stock they might ship. Google them, awesome place to visit in person.

***** Yea, I am in Canada, but in Ontario. So I cannot regularly go to BC. Do they ship within Canada?

Great video, how do you get flytraps to flower? thanks. :)
@BradsGreenhouse10 жыл бұрын
As long as they are adult size they flower in the summer. I mostly just cut off the blooms, they slow down trap growth.
@orchidlover953710 жыл бұрын
Thanks, oh well, i'll probably let it flower once just to see what the blooms look like, thanks for the help. :)

Me too! I like that they always seem to be in bloom!
@happybuddyperson10 жыл бұрын
Also, for the Ping gigantea, they do not make a succulent leaf. They are always carnivorous no matter how wet or dry.
