Good day, could you do a video regarding the diffrent disease that affect Pings. The cause, to prevent and to cure them. Thanks.

Ahhh, thank you so much Damon!!! I recently got into pings, and I got one in the mail without any sphagnum moss whatsoever, and it was all dried and curled up with one of the leaves totally rotten. :( It has since looked like it's slowly deflated, and I put a dried bloodworm on it to see if it stuck at all but it appears it lost its oily coat. It also was not able to attract any flies or gnats whatsoever, but all the other carnis nearby have 0 issues. What can I do? Is it too late? Any help from the killer plant community would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks for the information on these wonderful little plants. When a flower dies is it safe to remove it at the base of the flower stem of should I leave some of the stem?
@California_Carnivores11 ай бұрын
Yes! Go ahead and trim it off at the base with scissors, you can leave some of the stem if it’s easier

Have you experimented at all with succulent leaf pullings vs carnivorous leaf pullings? Some people seem to think it doesn't matter, while some people think it's better to use succulent pullings. Specifically, my Johanna and Seductora seem to be be picky, but my Sethos and Gigantae derivative seem to not care as much.
@California_Carnivores3 ай бұрын
It definitely does make a big difference. You’re much less likely to have any success with carnivorous leaves. Plants like gigantea that do not have a succulent period can be pulled any time though!

How many ounces is your misting bottle? Box instruction say "up to 14 drops/quart for feeding once or twice a month" Want to make sure I have my dosing correct for the pings..thanks!

It’s about 40 ounces and we follow the dilution recommendation on the packaging of the fertilizer!

I am a newbie at keeping butterworts and bought one of your $45 kits with 3 pings. They are doing great and catching lots of fungus gnats. Do the fungus gnats get dissolved over time? The gnats on mine don't seem to be dissolving away and it has been about 3 weeks since they trapped the gnats. Or do I have to clean them off occasionally?

Once they have caught a lot of gnats, how do you clean them off? Do you just have to wait for the gnats to get completely digested? How long will that take?
@California_Carnivores6 ай бұрын
You just wait and the leaves die back and new ones grow in, you can remove the old leaves with the little gnat carcasses when they shrivel up. You can also water from overhead sometimes to knock the old bugs off

Great video! Question - is it safe to get the diluted cactus fertilizer on the roots of pinguicula? I've lost plants when I accidentally got diluted Maxsea on the roots so I wanted to know if this was true for the cactus fertilizer as well.
@California_Carnivores3 жыл бұрын
We try to just foliar feed with a mist bottle and avoid pouring the fertilizer through their roots. But we have not had any issues with losing them from having their roots exposed to the cactus fertilizer

I see that a lot of people have moss on their butterwort pots. Is that desirable and intentional?
@California_Carnivores3 жыл бұрын
It happens naturally for us in the nursery and we don’t see it harming the plants unless the plants are very small or the plants don’t get repotted frequently enough and the moss grows quite tall.
@looshandnugget3 жыл бұрын
@@California_Carnivores ok! But no major reason to intentionally cultivate moss on my butterworts?

What exact measurements would you suggest for the fertilizer to water? Say 3 drops to a cup??
@California_Carnivores2 жыл бұрын
We usually follow the directions on the packaging which I believe is 7 drops of fertilizer to 1 quart of water.

I bought Pinguicula ehlersiae Mighty Mouse a few weeks ago . I potted it just like I learned from your video. I give it plenty of sun and keep it moist at all times. My problem is, it looks like it's leaves are curling up and it is dying, HELP. Is it going dormant for the winter or is it really dying ?

Hi! I purchased a ping from you guys and it was delivered one week ago! I immediately potted it and it’s been in moist soil all week. It has yet to get slimy or attract any bugs. Is this normal? I’m wondering if it just needs more time to adjust but I can’t help but worry about it. Thanks!!
@California_Carnivores2 жыл бұрын
It probably just needs more time to adjust out as they can take 4-6 weeks to fully bounce back. But if you don’t see it glistening with dew after that, it probably needs a bit more light!

I heard that pings are weak in hot environments. How do you manage the greenhouse temperature in summer?
@California_Carnivores2 жыл бұрын
We have a large swamp cooler that runs the length of our greenhouse so it doesn’t get too crazy in here. Pings can take a lot of heat though; the Mexican pings are native to Central America and grow in very warm areas
@stevenukasick92903 жыл бұрын
I've had a few pings for almost a year now. They do not catch any insects (perhaps because I have few fungus gnats in the house?) Do I need to catch gnats and other insects and "feed" my pings? Or is the foliar fertilizer you recommend enough? I'm in Minnesota so putting them outside really only is an option for four months of summer.
@California_Carnivores3 жыл бұрын
Foliar feeding with Schultz cactus fertilizer once every few weeks will be enough to make them very happy. We don’t get many bugs in the nursery and the fertilizer works wonders!
@iddybiddyladybugleeza9094 жыл бұрын
So is it better to separate the plants? If so when they are in succulent faze or wait for the carnivorous season? I have 6 plants from you in my AeroGarden and hopefully after our furlough I can get more from you guys (& gals) 💚🌿
@California_Carnivores4 жыл бұрын
We usually do leaf pullings when they are in their succulent phase. You can separate plants at this time too but sometimes they just burst into a pile of leaves.

@California_Carnivores3 жыл бұрын
You can’t grow these plants in a pond but some of the warm temperate butterworts could be grown close to a pond and be flooded by it as long as the pond is low in total dissolved solids like minerals and salts

Hey, did you mean pon like leca? If so, no because it has fertilizer in it
