PLEASE NOTE: I filmed this a month ago just a day or two after the movie released and it just now cleared copyright claims on KZbin! I have seen the whole movie now :)

Sorry if you clarify this somewhere that I missed- Had you heard the songs (Broadway version) before?

Are you going to do a movie review/reaction? Would love to hear what you thought.

I'm a HUGE Broadway nerd, and I LOVED it! I had reservations about Ariana Grande too...but she brought it, hard. I already knew Cynthia would be amazing. Everyone was wonderful. Jonathan Bailey's Dancing Through Life was insane. That set was amazing.

I’ve never been huge on musicals but there a few musicals turned into movies that have my heart like Sound of Music, Westside Story-Original, Annie, Little Shop of Horrors and now I can add Wicked to that list. I’ve seen it like 6 times now going for 6 more at least before the next part. And when Wicked tours my city again I’m going to watch the broadway. When the director and film crew are theatre kids themselves it makes a difference. Everyone from the cast of the movie to the film grip were passionate about this movie and you can tell.

From someone that has seen the stage production 17 times. I was VERY skeptical about this being adapted for a movie, especially with Ariana being cast as Glinda. However, once we went to see the movie, we bought tickets to see it three other times. They did a phenomenal job with it and I adore Ariana in the role. Of course Cynthia is a legend.

Part 2 of Wicked is actually my favorite. It has my favorite songs (As Long As You're Mine & No Good Deed), and I am jazzed that they will be adding new original songs. :) I had some hesitation about Ariana myself, but I have gone to see it twice (once by myself solo which speaks volumes bc I hate doing things alone). Very very superbly done. Even previous movie musicals that I have gripes or issues with, I still love in the grand scheme of things because for me -- having it available is the most important thing. I love people having more access to musicals. I hope they release even more proshots of broadway shows, in addition to fully fleshed out movie musicals. Jon Chu did incredible with Wicked thus far!! :)

What’s even cooler is the songs will be written by the original composer/lyricist, so you know it will be treated with love.

Adaptations themselves are not a bad idea they usually just do a bad job with it. This one did a good job

Okay, so I'm a huge musical theatre fan and to answer your question about movie adaptations of musicals. Some of them are great and some of them miss the mark, and this really comes down to whether the director loves musicals, whether they want to respect the source material. So many musical adaptations will cut ensemble songs that they consider in fluff or will not cast the best singers and performers in favor of big Hollywood names, and they don't always bring the dynamic energy of the stage to the screen and so it loses something in translation. However, Wicked did a phenomenal job on all counts and a large part of that was Ariana, who is a diehard Wicked fan from when she was young. I am not someone who's followed much of Ari's career but I know she did broadway growing up, and I've really come to respect her talent and work ethic watching her as Galinda. She's fantastic and Cynthia is simply incredible. What's interesting to me is back in the 30s and 50s, musicals and movie musicals were a super popular thing but also they had a very specific sound and quality to them that's not as popular today, but because of that, the world had decided to dislike musicals and directors don't know how to adapt them anymore, but the musical itself has grown and evolved into something very different and varied than what it was, but people still hear the word musical and think they don't like them because of the idea in their head that musicals still look and sound like they did in the 1930s.

I hope you were able to do reactions to Defying Gravity, No One Mourns The Wicked, & The Wizard and I because I know you would love those!

I knew Cynthia would be amazing but pop star Ariana was not something I wanted to see or hear, I felt she wasn’t talented enough to play a part like this but boy oh boy was I WRONG!!!!! Pop music does not do her justice! Ariana’s talent is huge and a disservice has been done to her. She is absolutely phenomenal and I’m so happy for that she can show this side of her!

Live on-set vocals for the most part then blending in some studio parts then mix everything with some pitch correction would be my guess.
