Thanks for this. I had a K2000 keyboard years ago and sold it. Always regretted it. Just bought 2 x K2000R one working, one faulty but has sampling option. Going to make one good one and a SCSI2sd is next on the list! Thanks again

Thanks for the really helpful video Brad. I recently got a K2KS V3 and upgraded the floppy to a USB. This will be my next upgrade.

Do you then save your user presets to the SD card? Does this negate the need to use those AA batteries that are such a pain to get to?

Hi! Could you help me? I'm the happy owner of a Roland XP 80 which is working fine except for a message - "User Memory Damaged" - which appears whenever I try to store sound settings. I've tried Factory Reset, I've taken it to Roland Technical Assistance in Brazil but they haven't even opened it to try to find out what the problem is. They just told me there are no spare parts available to fix it. I've tried to find a solution in the Internet and a person suggested me to use electrical contact cleaner, which I did but it didn't work either... I would appreciate any help! Thanks a lot and congratulations for your work on this keyboard.

I love your videos. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I am trying to build my experience level and I am looking to do my first recap, on a Roland MKS-20. I pulled the PSU board out and there are 13 caps ranging from 4.7 to 6800µF and between 16 & 35V. I have been looking on Digikey, but it is a bit overwhelming. Could you link or point me in the direction of the brand/series you would recommend for this job. This unit is fully functional, but I just opened it and saw the PSU caps are bulging big time. Are there any other common faults in the MKS-20? Your help is much appreciated!

The best Brad, thank you! Love all the content as it is so very relevant. Emax II has the same issue and this is perfect info for this as well.

Great video. I have a kurzweil k2600x keyboard with os 3.1. What exact filmware and EPROMs do I need to purchase in order to upgrade to os 3.87?

Hi, great videos! Did you post a link to the scsi to sd adapters, I can’t find any.

I have a scsi2sd (v4.0) which I installed after a re-cap. Sometimes the K2000r freezes on boot up. I though it might have been a compatibility issue but as you have not mentioned anything I will have to double check my termination setup. I have a feeling I might have the inline resistor array plugged in but I can't be sure. I need to get one of those plastic front panels as I am using an extended usb reader which is taped to the front of the unit. You would be horrified lol. Great video!

Thanks for the great video. Still lost. I got the bluescsi and tried writing data it always crashes at 1G even though I have 2G images on the SD. Vers 3.87 so no idea what's wrong

Hi Bradthx I have a Roland S330 and the power cord was soldered on the power supple and it's the Roland 2 pin power setup. The connected cable was cute, so since I have to change the cable I'm putting in a 3 pin connector. I have a bunch of those cables from my computers. There is something screwed into the ground into the bottom of the case. Can I put a second ground cable under that same screw? Question 2 The Roland S330 & S10 were not SCSI, have you seen how they are setup or programed? Quik Disc Floppy Emulator from Gotek is for the S10 and a GOTEK USB Floppy Drive Emulator (USB/FDE) for the S330 Thanks TJ

I was able to get to the far end of the original ribbon cable by temporarily unscrewing the Digital In and Out on the back - Have tried to connect the module again from the "SCSI from ENGINE" using that existing cable, and it still doesn't find any of the SCSI drives. I ran the utilities app to prepare the four 'drives', and things look like they should work, but there continues to be no communication with the new unit. (The tally light on it does go on when the K2000R powers up). Any thought as to what I'm overlooking? Thanks.

How do you get your files on the SD card? The PC does not see the Kurzweil CD image format? Copying from the CD takes for ever? Any help would be great!

There's a third party software you need to do that I don't know the name but have a look on some forums

Hi there I would like to do that on a cd3000xl. Put a scsi card and use cards to store iso cd roms images because I don’t rely to much on the cd rom drive. Do you think that it’s possible since I thing max partition it’s 512 mg but cd rom are more like 800 mg ?

I need to know whether chickensys Kurzweil Translator is the only option out there for editing and porting sample setups to the K2xxx family? From what I am reading there is no other way to prep my own samples on a mac or pc without using this particular software. I am assuming that I wouldn't be able to use the SD card on my mac or pc because it's formatted for kurzweil (as he does right in this video).

Thank you Brad! I have a K2500R that I want to do this for. Is there much of a difference from the K2000R? Doesn’t the K2500R access a little more capacity per partition? Overall, I hope the process is very similar to what you just showed. Thank you for your input.

Random question, any idea what could cause a high frequency feedbackish sound leaking into the audio when effects are on let's say 30% or more wetness on a k2500r?

This was hugely helpful, although now (with my scsi2sd module, and the K2000R opened up) I'm a little confused, since there were a bunch of missing parts in the machine you were using. It wasn't clear to me just what the module connects to - I'm presuming it's the jack on the top board that says "SCSI FROM ENGINE". The original ribbon cable which was there goes down into the bottom-most board, which looks inaccessible without removing a lot of parts. So I am trying to use a standard female to female 50 pin ribbon to connect the module to the jack that is easy to reach, but when I power up the K2000R, it doesn't see the new device. I don't know if this is because of where I'm connecting, or (I suspect) because of the Kurzweil SCSI cables that have their own proprietary pin quirks. Should I rip things apart enough to get access and use the original cable, or am I making wrong assumptions about where the ribbon needs to go? (I also presume that the other end of the ribbon was just giving access to the original SCSI port on the back of the machine, so that doesn't need to have anything plugged into it.) If you can shed any light on this, it would be much appreciated - I can't be the only one who's run into this! Thanks -

Did you ever figure this out? I think I am running into a similar issue with my K2000RS and a SCSI2SD v5.2. When it's connected (to the "INTERNAL HARD DRIVE" scsi connector) it won't even boot up.
@ampersandschwa
@ampersandschwa 2 жыл бұрын
@@dandalyn There’s a Facebook group called Kurzweil K2 series user group - which includes a bunch of info - this was my response to a solution (which had pictures of the cable, etc, so I’d check it out there) “I was able to get back on the right track - the cause of the blank screen was that one of the legs on one of the EPROMs had bent and missed its proper socket. Huge thanks to Cezary Okruszko for the picture, which not only clarified proper cable orientation, but also that I was trying to plug into the wrong socket: when I plugged it into the internal drive rather than SCSI from engine, and reconnected the other ribbon to its other end on the lower circuit board, the scsi2sd module could finally see all four virtual drives. I was able to format them and copy the .krz files that used to be on my Zip drive to the SD card. But thanks to you all!”

Thanks for the video Brad, I just got a k2000 and it is all factory original With a 3 1/2 floppy. I want to upgrade , what is the best thing to upgrade it with a scsi2sd or a usb . Thanks

he clearly raved about the scsi2sd and for good reason. Floppy emulators work at floppy speeds and sizes. Scsi2sd has a usb btw. And v6 allows you to access the card from it. there's not contest

I have a Kurzweil K2000RS that will only boot after I perform a Hard Reset. Once the until is reset, I works just fine. Once I turn the unit off, the same issue reoccurs (i.e., blank screen with the floppy LED illuminated). Any suggestions? BTW, when I run the Diagnostic test, everything passes except the Hobbs & Calvin #8.
