What’s worse is a more compelling movie was already spelt out in a trailer. The idea that Scott would make a deal with Kang because of lost time with Cassie and the idea that she was falling into the same traps because of his absence, only for it to fall through and Scott has to tragically give up everything to prevent Kang’s escape has the potential to be extremely compelling and on brand for how marvel portrayed him. It’s better than the mess of a film they made at least.

I KNOW RIGHT!!!! I watched that trailer so many times because yeah even tho they spelled out the plot in the trailer it would have been so cool to see the performances, Scott actually for once feel like Cassie was pulling away from him. And I even thought he was going to sacrifice himself at the end to keep Kang locked in the Quantum Realm! I was so pumped to see it. But they pretty much lied to us and gave us this… mess.

I know they wanted include the Inhumans in the movies. Agents of Shield had the characters release the terrigen mist and created more Inhumans. This should've been what Civil War tackled. The Avengers and Shield's response to these new Inhumans. Could still have it open with the Avengers confronting one of these Inhumans, and then they accidentally trigger their powers. Leading to the death of many people. Causing them to draft the Accords, which they just extend to include the Avengers as well. Holding them accountable for events in the past.

Best channel on the MCU. There are dozens of channels that analyze the MCU purely from a filmmaking/storytelling perspective, which is fine, but it means there are dozens of very similar videos dunking on easy targets like the She-Hulk show, all saying the same things, which makes it repetitive. We need fresh voices that say things others don't, because - for example - they know the source material really well. This is what even successful critics like Drinker and Mauler lack.

Interestingly the lack of comic continuity and major events being changed to different characters in the MCU is something James Gunn seems to be avoiding in the new DCU with most of the titles directly referenced to the comics without any alternatives in the way. Which imo is gonna make the new DCU more connected and not afraid to adapt the comics as intended.

Honestly I think part of the reason is how big Marvel keeps going. Most of the best stories came from when things were more grounded and 'real'. Yes Ironman or Antman's suit are future tech-magic, but it was grounded enough that it felt real. Captain America Winter Soldier felt real. All the focus now seems to be going on the powers and making them as extravagant as possible, and the characters are getting left behind to show off their abilities. Some of the best parts of No Way Home were the characters just talking, the Spidermen, the bad guys, them interacting with each other. Marvel needs to slow down and go for some smaller stakes again, not every movie being about saving the world from an OP enemy.

They've done this method to tons of characters, not just Ant-Man. Let's call it the MCUification method. This method is where you take a long established comic book character, strip them of what made them interesting, and turn them out to be a bland, quippy, cookie-cutter Hollywood protagonist. I think the three worst victims of the MCUifcation method consist of a team and character that everybody for some reason thinks Marvel Studios nailed, and one so infamously hated that as a fan of this character, it honestly makes me sad. They are: Guardians Of The Galaxy, Dr. Strange, and Captain Marvel. I would of put Namor here aswell, but that's a whole other discussion for another comment. Just know that the MCU's 'Namor' is not even the same character. So, Namor technically doesn't even exist in the MCU. And everyone has covered what happened to Spider-Man, Thor, and Hulk, so I won't repeat those points. They let James Gunn just play around with the source material, dumb down every character to be a cheap gag, all so he can live out an 80s fantasy. Star Lord used to be a Master Chief-esque hero, and now he's Clown Solo. James's comic book films are only praised because he purposely chooses obscure, or lesser known characters, and butchers them beyond oblivion, but he gets away with it. Now we have the Suicide Squad being jokes, the Guardians are internationally seen as funny jokes, and god only knows what he's gonna do with the revamped DCEU. They were so afraid of letting Dr. Strange being a darker, more deeper film, that they needed some last minute reshoots with Dan Harmon coming in to write in the painfully unfunny comedy we got. They also vandalized Stephen's personality, completely dumping Donna's death (which was the reason he became a great neurosurgeon, and thus egotistical), and just haven't evolved him as a character. Benedict is just stuck playing another variation of his version of Sherlock, this time in a red cloak. Dr. Strange, pre origin story, was just arrogant. He wasn't funny, quippy, he wasn't a RDJ clone. He was serious, brooding, condescending, aloof, brash, and egocentric. Post origin story, he retained his seriousness and broodiness, but became kinder, compassionate, a mentor figure, someone willing to let in other people's feelings. But, he also suffers through great trauma, and is also vulnerable, sometimes shaky, and has a lot of emotional turmoil whilst being the Sorcerer Supreme. Bottom line is that in both states of the character, HE WAS SERIOUS. But alas, Marvel Studios opted to turn him into essentially magical Tony Stark, minus the charm. If you want a good version of Dr. Strange, play Midnight Suns. Watch the 2007 animated film. Or, read the comics. He's one of the few characters that haven't had their personalites changed to fit the films. Lastly, Captain Marvel. Do I even have to say anything? Mar-Vell was not only gender swapped, but was also demoted to being a bland supporting character, when he should of been more of a love interest/mentor. Another classic hero wasted. They screwed around with the lore of Captain Marvel, changed the Skrulls to being refugees (because why not), and so much that I can't even get into. But most importantly, Carol Danvers herself was changed for the worse. She actually used to a very interesting character, contrary to popular belief. She had a lot of emotional turmoil after becoming a superhero, she had feelings of anger and resentment to other heroes getting more credit than she did, she was an alcoholic for years due to the trauma she suffered from her dad's negligence, Marcus (it was a horrid storyline, but still), becoming more shaky and authoritative under Bendis for Disassembled and Secret Invasion, etc. She shares a lot of the same attributes that I gave with Stephen. The problem came in 2012, when Marvel thought that she was on the same level as Iron Man or Captain America, and decided to shove her down our throats as Captain Marvel. Media campaigns, arrogant comics writers becoming antagonistic to fans, the Tumblr crowd rearing it's ugly head, all for a character whose books are constantly cancelled, forcing her to be a supporting character on the mainline Avengers title. And instead of finding a way to improve on Captain Marvel, having her go on a hero's journey with Mar-Vell, and towards the end becoming Captain Marvel after pouring blood, sweat, and tears, and being a beloved, relatable protagonist... we got Brie Larson. Bottom line is that whilst people think the MCU has gone to the gutter, all the problems we see now were seeded in the beginning, from three things: 1- Lack of respect for corners of the source material, and unwillingness to adapt it properly. 2- Sheer terror of writing anyone and anything with seriousness, so instead we have to rely on bathos instead of pathos. 3- A rabid, dogmatic cult of a fanbase, at the ready to defend any decision that Kevin Feige, who's basically God to these folks, does. The worst part, is that the comics have suffered as a consequence of this. Anime and manga have been kicking the western comics industry for over a decade now, but Marvel could of combatted this. Instead, because of their slavishness to brand syngery, they have screwed over the continuity of Earth-616 time and time again, just to turn into an advertisement for the movies, instead of the other way around. All this has achieved is turning away longtime fans, and just angering the ones who stick around. As a result, sales are at their lowest, awful decisions just keep being made, and so many talented people are left without a job, all because Marvel is trying to make their comics appealing to a younger audience that isn't there. Most kids and teens today don't read comics, and that's just reality. TLDR; Marvel Studios have changed and vandalized so many characters, and the problems began in 2012. And Marvel Comics have suffered for this.

I’ve heard that the comic Civil War 2 (where Carol Danvers went against Iron Man in advocating what is essentially Minority Report) was only made to help promote the Civil War film or to use the hype of the movie. Either way, it left the comic to be rushed. That comic of course really made Carol looked like the bad guy (girl) where Tony Stark, who was the one who had fallen the deep end in the first Civil War to the point of hiring villains, was seen as reasonable and have seen to have learned the right lessons from the first Civil War.

The Carol Danvers Issue, I think, can be traced back to the fact that 2012 Marvel desperately wanted a Wonder Woman character to use in the movies later down the line - a female character they still held the film rights to, who had actual powers that were easy to understand, and who didn't appear on the surface to be a knockoff of a well-known male character. They looked at their stable of characters, and Carol fit the bill, and as a bonus they got to make her Captain Marvel, which solved another issue: that being the fact that they have to publish a "Captain Marvel" comic series every so often or they lose the trademark and DC gets to use the name with impunity.

If Ant Man and The Wasp were apart of the Avengers from day one, what would it look like? Well let’s see. In this alternate universe, Edgar Wright film was never being developed. Ant-Man gets a Phase 1 film with Pym as the central character. Wright wanted the legacy story with Lang and his involvement caused the film to be massively delayed. Marvel knows that the Avengers film is going to consist of their solo heroes coming together. Due to roster limitations, Ant-Man and the Wasp join in, Hawkeye and Black Widow get dumped. Ant-Man was a film that was in development for years, so it's probably an early Phase 1 film. For fun, we can put the film in 2010 instead of Iron Man 2. I'd put Hank & Jan as the Avengers, probably with their own Phase 1 movie. Hank would be a workaholic scientist and Jan a more sociable fashion designer, and Hank would design Ultron in AoU. Scott would show up in AM&W3, in Phase 3. Black Widow and Hawkeye would just be side characters but with actual personalities and backstories. Ant-Man and The Wasp - (May 7 2010) a very smart scientist tries to get his own company going with the help of his wife, who is a famous fashion designer. They are also superheroes. Roxxon, A.I.M, Whirlwind, Egghead, and other villains appear. (Series, Year One) Avengers - Pym takes over the Banner role in the film. Janet takes over the Black Widow role. The Hulk becomes more of the first villain in the film with the team taking him on after being mind controlled by Loki. Hulk is defeated and teams up with the other heroes to take on Loki. Maybe we get Black Widow and Hawkeye in minor roles in the film as SHIELD agents or they can be mind controlled pawns by Loki.

Thunderbolts is supposed to be a movie. With Disney owning Marvel, unfortunately there's a possibility Disney was afraid of the darker storylines involving Hank Pym. That's also unfortunate because Pym's life gets into mental health issues and would be seen as politically inclusive to put that under the microscope narratively. Video was wonderfully spot on. I do like some of the movies you mentioned that you disliked, but in a few ways I'm a little too easy to please as a film enthusiast. But, that's not true of all (I still can't believe how horrible the 4th Thor turned out, there was something of a passing watchability to Ragnarok (sorry for inventing words)).

I would congratulate whoever's responsible for writing 2015 Ant Man's changes regarding Hank Pym and his daughter if they fully committed to making Hank and Hope resemble Janet Van Dyne and her father. That was a good idea potentially in my eyes long term. Whose relationship with Scott Lang was meant to, initially, mirror Hank's with Janet and her dad. The scientist mentor of Hank Pym, funding his research prior to Hank discovering Pym particles. Then when months later aliens invaded, sniped her dad/his benefactor and friend, this led Hank to suit up and bring Janet along. Who wanted revenge personally. Hank provided Janet her superpowers to join him in fighting these aliens and given the Cold War era setting, someone could easily write in that exact origin story for Janet's Wasp. Rather than her arbitrarily deciding she wanted to join her husband when this choice indirectly ended in her sacrifice estranging her husband and daughter from one another. Janet Van Dyne was never given a legitimate, sensible, understandable reason for wanting her own suit. Avengers Earth's Mightiest Heroes implies the origin I summarized above occured sometime earlier while both Janet and Hope in the MCU's only apparent motivation for wearing their own suits is they want to inexplicably. Scott Lang's comic history overall is detached from Hank Pym and his family, with more connections to the Avengers, Fantastic Four, and Tony Stark than his predecessor's side of the Marvel Universe. Giving Scott Lang Hank Pym and his daughter for supporting characters worked in my opinion better than beginning with Hank and Janet aged around the Avenger's human character's ages. Unfortunately neither Janet Van Dyne nor Hope resemble Janet Van Dyne or Nadia Pym. Making both barely original and definitely redundant character archetypes already seen before in-universe (Jane Foster and Black Widow). If I were to add one reason for Kang the Conqueror being Ant Man 3's main villain, completely throwing out the Quantum Realm, I would reveal in the third Ant Man movie Kang the Conqueror fought the original Avengers lineup including Hank Pym's Ant Man and Janet Van Dyne's Wasp (whose ages were closer to their teammates). He lost, but was so infuriated that Ant Man and the Wasp were pivotal in defeating him that he calculated, rather than "burning them out of their timeline" how to prevent them from becoming Avengers by manipulating their entire ancestry so that they were born earlier. Doesn't take much to engineer events so that their ancestors were born just a smidge earlier. Of course that doesn't explain Bill Foster's age but I would speculate Kang the Conqueror might've instantly received respect if there was a plot twist that he's the reason Hank and Janet are older in this universe. Making their lives unrecognizable compared to who they were meant to be. Perhaps Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne were famous historical figures before Kang remade their existence largely uneventful or full of failure. Revealing Scott Lang and Hope Van Dyne Pym are the wrong Ant Man and Wasp, who could fail to defeat Kang the Conqueror in Ant Man 3/Avengers Kang Dynasty. Or Kang created a stronger Ant Man family that will annihilate him without the Avenger's assistance. I'm now imagining an Ant Man 3 opening scene where a self-referrial joke starts the film acknowledging how the last two Ant Man movies followed behind Avengers Age of Ultron and Avengers Infinity War. Where in one out of four Avengers movies only the fourth included founding members Ant Man and Wasp. Fading out from a black screen the Avengers theme vibrantly plays; awkwardly followed by Ant Man and the Wasp's theme. While Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Hulk, Black Widow, and Hawkeye are fighting Kang the Conqueror in the background; together one step behind the camera follows Ant Man (Hank) and Wasp (Janet) who are trying to catch up while miniaturized. Eventually they do and the full team defeat Kang the Conqueror. Whose left in a similar position to Loki during the Avengers 2012 scene in which the team stands in front of him inside Avengers Tower. Except this time, these Avengers pose homaging the Avengers founding members statue where Iron Man, Captain America, and Thor stand side by side (Hawkeye targets Kang at a lower position. Black Widow stands between Captain America and Thor). Hulk crosses his arms behind Iron Man and Captain America. Behind them all Hank Pym is Giant Man, holding up the Wasp on his finger as if she were a butterfly resting on his finger. Hank and Janet exchange looks at each other without seeing that in-between them in this shot Kang the Conqueror is glaring directly at them both. The Avengers backs are turned and none of their faces are shown. Meaning a triangle between Kang the Conqueror in front and Hank/Janet in back shows who is important for this movie. Maybe Kang the Conqueror teleports away or is shrunk down to the Quantum Realm. Either way, he manages to erase this timeline and following that scene Scott Lang can walk around upbeat with a goofy smile believing he's an Avenger. Never knowing what could have been.
