Brah I am so greatful for your videos, I live in Uganda and my 1990 535i is non existent in this country, so your repair videos help me to do work as well as my mechanic. Thanks brother for doing what you do.

Fun fact as he mentioned this was an afterthought from BMW, the previous 5 series car (e28) had almost identical rear trailing arms to these except they had smaller bushings and no pitman arm. However in 1986 the e28 got updated rear trailings arms which are the exakt same part as the e34. Even the part numbers are the same so yeah, the pitman arm really is an afterthought or update that the e28 received in 1986 and then carried on to the e34.

Just fitted these to my car a week ago, this video would have really come in handy. Superb explanation, presentation, videography, will probably become a reference video in the future. Liking your wheels dude, already looks pretty low to me, unless this video was uploaded after lowering but before uploading the lowering video if you get what I mean lol. Just wait 'till you get to the axle beam bushes....great fun!😎

Thank you, I really appreciate it! It did look really lowered on camera, but I think it was the fisheye of the lens mixed with the camera angle. And yup, those do look like fun. There are a lot of bushings that need some love back there. One thing at a time...

Interesting stuff man, loving an E34. I actually had an E34 535i as my first car; such a great car. Keep the videos coming.

Great video! If I still had my e34 I would have checked this part. Mine was a 1989 525i 5spd with 298k miles and it was also my first car. It's what led me to buy a e92 328i lol.

Thanks! That's an awesome first car! Definitely hard to end up with just one BMW lol

Great video, when I last looked at this, the parts file (real Oem / bmw fans) differed on order of hardware to the bmw TIS (technical information System). I went with the TIS order as that is what the techs would have access to in the workshop.
@MyersMotors2 жыл бұрын
There did seem to be some confusion online as to what goes where, so I just put things back in as they came out. Do you happen to remember what the TIS said?

I've bought Lemforder pitman links in the past as they are the Oem manufacturer. They clearly have have the bmw logo and part numbers removed from them
@MyersMotors2 жыл бұрын
Gotcha, that's good to know. I got these in a tub of parts with another car, they're definitely better than the old parts at the very least.

There are a number of OEM BMW parts I have purchased that taking off and comparing to the original, they are exactly the same with the only difference being the BMW logo being ground off so they can sell it as aftermarket. Lemforder parts have been one of the brands I have noticed that have done this. Good call out. Can’t say enough good things about finding OEM parts for old BMWs. Personally, my favorite parts supplier is FCPEuro, formerly FCP Groton. I highly recommend and am not affiliated in any way.

That was quite interesting. I wonder if anyone has retrofitted something similar on an e30. And why did they feel the e34 needed it. Heavier car perhaps.
@MyersMotors2 жыл бұрын
That's a good question. I'm assuming it is something to do with handling the extra mass. Would definitely be cool to see if something like that could be fitted to an e30 and what effect it would have.

Cuando voy en la 2 marcha y piso el coche a unas 5 rpm noto una vibración muy fuerte en la parte trasera , como una sacudida , crees que podría ser esta pieza ? En curvas lo noté pero solo dando gas .
@samuelgonzalezhorakova95368 ай бұрын
When I go in 2nd gear and floor the car at about 5 rpm I notice a very strong vibration in the rear, like a jolt, do you think it could be this part? In curves I noticed it but only giving gas. I really appreciate your response friend.🙏

Lots of stuff to unpack here without more detail. Could be the rear subframe bushings, any of the rear suspension parts, or even the differential especially if one of the rear tires is worn more than the other causing the rear differential to work harder. I’ve also seen problems on other cars where one of the brake calipers is locking up and causing something similar. I’d clean and grease the brake caliper slide pins first and check for uneven wear first as it’s free other than the labor you put in.
@brainkill70342 ай бұрын
Talking about the differential working hard, could even be that one of the rear tires is low on pressure compared to the opposite side. Another freebie to check and rule out.

Not entirely true as to what the e34 pitman arm does.
