Wilhelm Furtwängler's place in history adds considerable value to any recording he left behind for future generations. We have been getting a lot calls for a new restoration of this one, but had to obtain as many versions as possible to get the material we required for a valid analysis.
Ultimately there were more than just condition issues, for some strange reason every version we found had been mastered way above the original levels which caused the acoustics to blow out. Once those were re-established it was possible to create the present restoration with the original acoustics.
