That braid twist hack is a stroke of genius. I have a couple of NSR F1 86/89’s, which is a sublime car but they started to get very stuttery for no apparent reason. And because it’s quite a quick car, the stutters made them particularly difficult to drive. I using Scalextric Sport track. After applying your tip, I am delighted and amazed by the difference. Thanks very much! 👍🏼

I haven't met a car that didn't benefit from it. Just remember to re-adjust if you ever race your cars on any other kind of track.

After one of my Scalextric cars started acting up; sporatic acceleration, sputtering, I noticed that the braid was all tangled up. After straightening it out with a toothpick the car ran as it was supposed to. I will be giving your Tip try. It makes sense that all parts of the braid should be pointing rearward. Zippideedooda

Yeah, I don't understand why Scalextric does them that way. It only leads to tangled braids. No other maker does that.

Hello you there Yes, I have been doing that when they get a little older, when you have scalextric,you need as much as you can get, they wear out quick, and get dirty, I keep them,clean with a toothbrush, Thank you for mentioning that now I feel,like I'm doing the right thing,

I didn't understand if the function of twisting the brushes favors contact or that the car does not leave the lane? If it is by contact something I understood about whether they are with rail interior in sheet metal (like scx) or in plastic (like ninco). Could you please clarify. Thanks a lot
@ggaub2 жыл бұрын
The function is to favor contact with the rail, not the plastic track surface. If the braids are set up as they would be for other kinds of track, they will favor the track surface, not the rails.

Hello you there, great channel,I was wondering if 1/24 cars like f1 cars,work on scalexric track? how tight,would it be would,they knock each other off the track?
@ggaub2 жыл бұрын
open wheel cars of any kind are a challenge to drive without causing crashes. As soon as one car's wheels hit another car's wheels, one or both of them are going to get launched off the track, just like real open wheel (F1) cars. But, since Scalextric track is 1/32, it would be especially risky to run 1/24 open wheel cars on it. If you're running 1/24 F1 cars, you'd best be on a 1/24 scale track like Carrera.

Do any of the Scalextric digital cars come w/ the chip installed ? or all DPR?
@ggaub Жыл бұрын
They did originally, but once they designed the DPR thing, they stopped including the chips with the cars other than in digital sets. I generally assume a car does not have a chip unless the seller specifically states that there is one already installed.

Would you recommend scalextric set over carrera.. or vs versa

a Digital set
@ggaub Жыл бұрын
No. :) More accurately... it depends. Both are great systems and each have pros and cons. I usually start by asking people how much space they have for a track, and if they think they might ever want to race the larger 1/24 cars. Other than those two points, it's pretty much a toss up. If you have plenty of room for a large track (think 8x12 rather than 4x8) and/or you are interested in running 1/24 cars, then get Carrera. If you don't have much space and don't care about 1/24 cars, get Scalextric.

1. ARE there any modded slot guides for scalextric cars...and 2. does this method work on scalextric digital ?
@ggaub Жыл бұрын
Yes, and Yes. There are a variety of guide replacements that work on Scalextric cars over the years. Sometimes a shim of some kind is needed. This braid forming technique actually started as a Scalextric Digital technique, but then I realized that it works well for analog racing on Scalextric track as well.
