Exactly the process i use however i cut the scotch pad into strips a little narrower than the two metal tracks, i dry rub the rails then i use autosol metal polish one another strip of scotch pad then buff it up and wipe the plastic off with a damp fibre cloth then polish dry with micro fibre cloth, works well you can use Inox mx3 as a finish coat to the rails applying it with a kitchen paper towl, all the best to you and your followers

Thanks for this excellent video. Just cleaned my straight and curved tracks following your advice, with amazing results. Used an extra fine pad to polish things up as well. I've found that cutting the scotchbrite into small squares seems to help. 👍🏻

Today guys i tried something different to clean the black track after polishing the rails....i had a can of carby cleaner in the garage and sprayed some onto a paper towel, rubbed the track, OMW a lot of dirt came off, i want to get a can of break cleaner and test that out, then i went to my built track ans tested a few cars to see where they break loose on corners and did the same cleaning on bad corners, made a difference, btw i am just starting out and keep buying 2nd hand tracks or sets to build a monster track, cant wai1t for my tyres to arrive NEW SILICONS, should offer a lot extra grip

Nice clear video. Prolonged use of scotchbrite might wear off the Nicel Plating, for general cleaning I use Auto Sol metal polish on a micro fibre cloth. How do you clean the internal join / contact?

I've just picked up a load of sport track, presumably this will work on this track too fine? Do you find the scotch pad too aggressive long term or is it fine?
@FAWRailsandSlots2 жыл бұрын
Hi Aaron, yes it'll be fine. Scotchpads aren't too abrasive and don't wear the coating off.

is it absolutely necessary the ti put down the insulation tape
@FAWRailsandSlots4 жыл бұрын
No it isn't. I put it there to protect the black plastic edges of the track next to the guide rails which are easily damaged and discoloured by the scotch pad.

How would you mask the curved tracks?
@FAWRailsandSlots4 жыл бұрын
In the same way, but you need to be a bit more careful with the tape. I've recorded a video that shows you how here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ql7YZqOIfNiXn7M

How often do you do that?
@FAWRailsandSlots3 жыл бұрын
It depends on the state of your track. Every 25 years for my track which has been stored in my attic.

Go get a PECO model railway track cleaning rubber.
@FAWRailsandSlots4 жыл бұрын
I tried that, but didn't find it easy to use. My experience was that the rubber caught on the track, rather than the guide rails and didn't clean them.
