I made this leash as my very first paracord project. It turned out beautifully! I used two black strands and one grass green and one lime green. I made the decorative herringbone knots blacks. Since I didn't have any experience splicing in different colors, I did a few small practice runs.The herringbone knot took me three tries but with patience and your careful instruction I was able to make it. I'm thrilled with the result, I wish I could upload a photo. Anyway, your instruction technique is thoughtful and clear, thank you!.

In the past ( like in the 70's) I've made many various knots in the practice of macrame. Formerly using hemp rope and waxed string. Parachute cord is a "auh-ha" moment. After all men were wearing parachute pants. Good job. I'm going to do this!!

Can you give some insight into the best way to tighten the larger knot? Thanks so much!
@Paracordguild7 жыл бұрын
Hey! You start at the very beginning of the strands. Work your way through each strand and tighten it until you reach the end of the strand. Do it several times, each time tightening a bit more. The first tightening is the most important. It should be fairly loose and is intended to shape the knot. I hope that helps. Let me know! Mark

First off, ive been wanting to do this one for months now amd the herringbone intimidated me enough to stay away from it but i finally decided to tie rhis last night. But i need some help please Mark! Only problem I'm having is where to hide the ends of the herringbone knot to make the last bights on the left. I've tied the knots over and over and can't seem to get it to look right or tighten well. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks Mark and as always, great tutorial
@Paracordguild7 жыл бұрын
Hey there! First of all, great job coming this far! The herringbone is indeed tricky at that part. Maybe this tutorial can shed some light? kzbin.info/www/bejne/oGHPq2ePr7iBd9k Let me know if that helps or I will make a tutorial for you. Mark
@night23fox7 жыл бұрын
Paracord guild thanks for the reply! I watched that video also. Just couldn't tell if the cords pass another bight, or enter the knot where they exit. I've tried both ways but I think I'm missing something. I'll watch some more videos and see if I can understand it a little better. Thanks again Mark!

I really like this knot(s) and will try to complete mine. I need to suggest something that will help us the learner to follow better. On the deck (table top) please a dross hair sites and an outside box at the limit of the camera. This way yu will have a reference to guild you to keep the knot with in view at all times for the viewer.

@ematt853 жыл бұрын
Hi Mark, I'm interested in making the knots using the same method you do in the video but they'd be with 8 strands instead of 4. Am I correct in thinking the process would be the same only with 4 extra unders/overs? Last, I'd like to tie a turks head that is entirely made up of single under 1 over 1 passes resulting in basically a diamond or checkerboard knot. Do you know how I'd start something like that with 8 strands as well? Thanks so much. Be well.

the re tightening part is what keeps getting me- I feel like you should have left that part in because us less intelligent people(meaning me) don't know where to pull actually GET it to tighten instead of ruining the structure of the whole herringbone knot

The knot (didn't catch its name) before you start making it into the herringbone knot, is that very strong when tightened? I have two large dogs. One is 79 lbs (35kg) and one is 57 lbs (26kg) and I don't want it snapping if they decide to pull but I also don't want the bulky herringbone knot although it does look nice. Thank you in advance if you answer.
@Paracordguild7 жыл бұрын
Hey! So you mean the multi strand turk's head knot? Well if you finish it properly, then it can work. You still need to feed the ends under the knot, then tighten it firmly (if that makes sense). Doing a good splicing matters a lot as well (sometimes the splicing is all you need- I have seen leashes with no finishing knots at all). Mark
@user-lo8es4co1i7 жыл бұрын
Miss Shelley May one strand of 550 paracord 5/32 can handle 110 pounds by itself and with it braided could probably hold 180 or more I'm just guessing

@Paracordguild5 жыл бұрын
Well, each cord has a static load strength of 550lbs. There are 4 in the leash. Usually the weak part of the leash is the metal :).
@onemelissa20035 жыл бұрын
@@Paracordguild thank you. That's what I was wondering... looking for a good clip. Thank you 🙂
@loganpike87645 жыл бұрын
Actually you are only getting the strength of 2 cords not 4. There are only 2 connected to the clip. But even 1 cord should be good enough for 150#.
