This confirmed how I’m going to start this set if locs! I’ve decided on small two strand twists... I started last year with interlocking (which I never really wanted) but I didn’t think comb coils would work very well for my hair... it’s pretty “fine and thin” and I didn’t want to bother with them constantly coming out... the interlocking did it’s job (even with those some of the back came undone, my hair is so soft in the back) but i just hate the compact/textured look interlocking gives.. I also wanted medium locs but realized, after 4mos, with my hair that might look ridiculous... big parts with little locs lol.... I want to be able to palm roll also... So i think small two strand twists will definitely give me the full look I want... and swell to a nice traditional/pencil size loc! And i can always combine if needed... this is the best video explaining all of this... you’ve said a lot of ppl from having multiple loc journey start overs! ☺️☺️🙌🏾

I should of started mines with braids because I'm having the ponytail issue, because I have thick hair. I'm growing out my under cut but I'm contemplating. The struggle is real! Tfs

Girl you so on point alot of people don't know that interlocking can compact the hair and minimize how big the hair get causeing it to be less heavy on your head. So as for me my second set of locks interlocking for me . Some people swish in between palm roll and interlocking that is a no no because it will give two different size locks which will not looking cute lol it will put dent in the lock so everyone should stick to their tighting pattern from day one. And yes the perimeter of the everyone edges are usual thinner so I think it's best to part the edges a little bigger to even the the thicker part of the head. And as for me having too much contribute to a lot of work so I stick to a 100 . Good video everything you said is true God bless you

Started my locs with braids today 😊 this is my second set. I combed my first set out after almost five years and I started with coils. My braids look exactly how you described, and yes it is very humbling lol

Skylar Blue it took about 1.5 months, bc I only did a couple each day. I would comb them out and then put them in two strand twists. I didn’t lose much, but I cut about half my length off so it may have been hard to tell. They were about bra strap length, and I cut them to my shoulders before combing them out.

Wow I’m nervous. I started my loc journey 7 weeks ago. I have thick hair. My loctician suggested I started with two strand twists. She made the front smaller parts but overall my locs are small/medium sized. I’m love ❤️ your locs and wanted mine to be similar. Please wish me luck!

I should have started with comb coils and not 2 strand twist. I don't feel that 2 strand twist allow some hair types to expand.

locs are such a trial and error since everyone's hair is so different. You never really know to be honest which us why I recommend starting with smaller parts so then you can combine to get thicker locs if you need to, since you can't really split locs so easily.

hmmm for freeform, it is probably better to do twists or comb coils because if you do Braidlocs or sisterlocks to start, the new freeform growth will be way thicker than the mature Braidlocs or sisterlocs, whereas twists and comb coils expand as they mature.

Hi Aamal! I can't recommend the exact number since I don't know your head shape lol. But, you may want to do small two strand twists to start so that your hair can swell and be slightly full once locked. I don't think I would recommend starting with braidlocs for you since you have low density hair. Keep in mind that the locking process will take 6-8 months before you start to see maturity, so patience is key! Good luck on your new journey 🤗

Ok,,,, This might be A Dumb question but if I don’t ask then I won’t know,,,, when u get loc extensions,, does it mater how u do your hair,, with palm roll, interlocking etc,, does the extensions change after time or will it stay the same hopefully I’m asking this question right ,,, I’m growing my hair back trying to determine how I’m going to start my locs but decided to get extensions,,, I want micro locs I like how the interlocking looks but now after listening to your video I’m unsure probably by December I will have enough hair to braid.., please give me a suggestion,,, definitely loving your videos,,, you really got me thinking because I didn’t realize there’s lots to learn about locs 💕

Hi Barbara! If you're planning on attaching loc extensions to your hair, make sure you keeping mind that the size of the loc extension will most likely be bigger than your locs will be once they have matured. So, you may end up with a thin natural loc at the base of your scalp that is attached to a thicker loc extension once your hair grows out. In order to avoid this, I suggest you part your locs bigger at the base so that as they grow, it is able to match the size of the loc extension. Hope that helps!

I’m noticing that 2 strand twist benefit people with looser hair types more than ppl with 4c hair. Anyone I’ve seen with thick locs that used 2 strand twist was usually a curly hair type and not coil curly. Coils work better for kinkier hair types because the hair is naturally already in that form

They may be dry? Try washing them, using an apple cider vinegar rinse after shampoo, and then adding a leave in conditioner to see how that helps!

I want my hair in interlocking method like microloc, but I have fine hair and I want something that can swell. If I start with two strands twist or coils then use the interlocking method with new growth I feel like my locs would look weird, the two strands twist at the ends would look thick and the interlocking at the roots would look thin. Ideas for me anyone?

It depends on the interlock rotation you choose to do. A 2 or 3 point would be looser than 4 point rotation.

I just checked out your 3 week loc update and they are budding nicely! I think the size will yield the thickness that you want. Just know that it will take some time for it to condense and condense until it thickens into the mature loc, but you will get there!

So true anyone start their hair by twisting instead of interlocking they will have a more fuller look compare to who interlocking. Do you have an opinion on starting locs by backcombing and to crochet the parts with a crochet needle until they are dense? I see it a lot where I live. I love your videos by the way ;) thanks!

You can do that but I think you should also keep in mind that there may be a disparity in the density of the backcombed locs (which will swell as time progresses) vs the new growth (that will also swell but it won't be as thick as the backcombed one will swell). Unless of course you plan on crocheting the new growth as they come out- for the entirety of you having locs. Hope that makes sense!

Keeping your locs styled might actually prolong your locing process. Initial swelling is a part of the loc journey but then they eventually go down and compact a little and "settle" into their final size. Constantly styling your hair will prevent it from doing this and take longer to loc. Depending on how you started you locs, one thing you can do is braid and band them while washing. This will prevent bunching in hair textures that are prone to that in the beginning. Bunching is when you hair shrivels in on itself making the loc look fatter than it actually is. I hope this helps!

I installed them! I used my fingers and just grabbed hair. But I grabbed with my finger hooked. They are so small though that you can’t tell one way or another. They are too small though. But it looks pretty. I wanted 250-300. I started counted and stopped at 300. I hadn’t even made it to the crown of my head when I was counting . I went through and combined some but after 4 days of doing them I was like screw it lol.
