Brain Aneurysm Awareness Month with Sharon Epperson

On September 18th, CNBC Senior Personal Finance Correspondent and survivor Sharon Epperson and Dr. Kellner from Mount Sinai raised brain aneurysm awareness on NBC News 'Daily Health' segment. Sharon shared her survivor story with news anchors Morgan Radford and Vicky Nguyen and also the importance of recognizing aneurysm risk factors and warning signs.

I had a 6mm aneurysm in November 22. It leaked and I went blind in one eye. Had brain surgery and was released within 3 days. I thank God I survived. I went back to work January 30th. I thank God.

I was 48, I had severe headaches, went to hospital and wad told I had meningitis. A year later same horrid headache, went to hospital and told I had a migraine. Went home and went away with my husband and 3 children under 4 to try and deal with these "miagraines". Fell to the floor in a car park the following day with a ruptured brain anuerysm. I was airlifted to nearest hospital, my family all told to come and say goodbye, I had a 5% chance of survival, but would most l likely be paralyzed and unable to speak. Brain surgery was performed and 8 years later I am fully recovered. I was a miracle survivor, never lost my speech or ability to move. I was in hospital for 1 months and rehab for another. My brain took about 2 years to make full recovery. Always pay attention to severe headaches, numb neck, fast speech and slurry speech. It was later found that Images from the year before did show the Aneurysm. If You feel your head is going to explode, request an MRI...

Thank you for sharing your story. You will save so many lives. I am also an 11 year survivor. I had a ruptured brain aneurysm 14 days after my daughter was born in 2012. They gave me a 10% chance to live. I was paralyzed and had to relearn a lot. I made a full recovery and my daughter is healthy and happy.

I had the sniff neck symptom. 39 years old when it happened. No family history of aneurysms. Next April will be 20 years ago I had a rupture. Very lucky to be alive.

I am a ruptured brain aneurysm survivor! I thank God everday for saving my life on March 14, 2021 I wish I had known about the brain aneurysm support foundation. I felt so alone- although my family was loving and supportive they could not truly understand what I was going through physically or emotional. I googled all my questions and feelings. My aneurysm was coiled. I also had to a brain surgery for the installation of a vp shunt. 2 1/2 years later I just googled aneurysm survivors and found so much more information. I never knew about the people pushing for gov funding etc... I'm so grateful and I thank God for saving so many other lives as well.❤

I am a Survivor from subarachnoid Hemorrhage from raptured anuerysm 5 months ago. I have no symptoms prior it was ordinary thursday afternoon i almost done my shift that day and i feel that thunderclap pain at the back of my head together with a blurry vision it was awful the pain of my head and eyes are unbearable 😢 . I am in the ICU for 20 days and undergo coiling and stent . As of today im still having an ON and Off headache , fatigue and the stiff neck from my shoulder to the back of head is painful even though im in a physiotheraphy once a week it doesn't go away but my vision was back to normal no more double vision.
