I am a ceberal brain aneurysm survivor- found out about it via an MRI because I was curious about the way one of my eyes looked. End result was that I had a seven millimetre berry type aneurysm clipped in 2010 when I was 52yo. The operation was performed at Monash Medical Centre Melbourne Australia. Everything went fine and continues that way. I have a follow up MRI every two years - so far so good. I'm a very lucky man.

Thank you very informative. I am really impressed with the DSA. I am a survivor of 23 years from a ruptured SAH that was clipped. I was misdiagnosed originally that meant I went into a coma but after a period of time stabilising I was well enough for surgery for which I am eternally thankful.

A study published in the Netherlands states that having sex, blowing your nose, or even drinking coffee can temporarily raise your risk of rupturing a brain aneurysm and suffering a stroke. Brain aneurysms are present in about 2 to 5 percent of the general population, but only 9 in 100,000 of those people ever experience an aneurysm rupture. Although the effects of a ruptured aneurysm can be devastating, it's important to remember that aneurysms themselves are somewhat rare: It is estimated that between 2 percent and 5 percent of Americans live with a brain aneurysm, and the vast majority will never experience a rupture. Among those who do, half will die, and half of those who survive will live with permanent disabilities. My sister past away due to a brain aneurysm recently. There was no type of warning, it happened so fast. She was 51 years old and was a healthy person. I’m trying to understand why this happened and just trying to find answers. This video has helped me understand more of this subject.

Hi there, I recently had an MRA completed. The results indicated a 2mm aneurism or infundibulum in the ACA.The report also stated that there was a fetal origin of the P1 segment of the POC that was severely hypoplastic. A CTA was ordered. The results of this test were negative for any abnormalities. When I had the CTA, the technician asked if I would be having an ( invasive) type angiogram.She said sometimes the CTA can miss catching aneurisms. I am happy with idea of not having any abnormalities,however, I want to be sure that the test is not a false negative. I experience chronic migraine, intermittent blurred vision, parathesias, and memory and word finding difficulties and dysphasia. I am 47 years old. I have an appointment with a neurologist, however I am not able to be seen for several months. Do you have any information or recommendations you can provide me on this matter? Thank you

Thank you for this informative video. It's helped explain alot. My wife had one in the past she was care flighted to a head trauma center an hr. away and had clips placed. Then years later she had another episode at home. Those were fixed by coiling. Recently by an angiogram and dye another unruprured one was found next to the coiling that was done. Now we are awaiting for an appt for the coiling and stent placement recommended by her Neurologist. Thank God for people with gifted brains to invent these devices and God gifted hands to perform these surgeries.

Can brain aneurysm aneurysms look like other ailments. Like stroke or other physical phenomena. Are there physical activities that can cause a formation of a aneurysm. Like a "Rear naked choke". Have to much cholesterol. Like lack of fitness or to much. Things like that.

I think I may have one based on your lecture. Problem is, I suffer from anxiety and doctors seem to discard the worries of a patient once they find out about this. I’m in my 20’s and it may be likely that I might not have one. But idk. Your lecture was very informative. Six weeks ago, Dr. Raphael Tamargo performed surgery to clip two small aneurysms at Johns Hopkins. Imaging showed outpouching on a 3mm wide neck aneurysm we were following for 10 years. It also grew slightly. There was another 1.5mm aneurysm which was new. When Dr. Tamargo got to the aneurysm, he said the walls were so thin he could see the blood circulating within the aneurysm. He said the little guy was particularly nasty and that I was probably only months away from a rupture. I was in the hospital for four days and discharged with no restrictions. I think the aneurysms were bilateral at the A1-A2 communicative junction. It appears Johns Hopkins is a pretty good training platform.

Thank you for the explanation. I have a question. I'm a bit confused about the family factor. People who have SAH family member independently of the type of kinship have higher risk, but is it right to generalize it this way ? Do I understand correctly, this is just a correlation, not causality ? The confounded factors could be the same environment they're in, same life style and bad habits that could be the cause. I would understand genetics is a factor but then it would be passed down to children, not the other way around ( so would be dependent on the type of kinship). Please correct me.

I was just told that I have one, and that only two percent of the brain aneurysm are located where mine is. He wants to do an angiogram, but a stroke can happen while trying to get to it. I'm scare.

My brother is currently in the hospital having suffered a ruptured aneurysm in the right posterior communicating artery. Today is the 10th day of his hospitalization and the doctor is requesting a family Care conference, he has not responded or followed commands and has no pain response on upper and lower extremities. Could you give me some advice or options on what to expect?

Dealing with physical therapy now, I still have some symptoms that I can only guess are from the concussion; shaky vision, headaches, and when it first happened and a bit after I would have this cold running water feeling inside my head on my left side of my forehead. But that hasn’t happened in a couple weeks and my migraines are just headaches now. But still ongoing, I thank you for your concern. 🌸

I've have had a stent put in my brain aneurysm back in 2018 and my Doctor still has me taking blood thinners (75mg tablet of Plavix and one 81mg of a low dose aspirin daily.) Is that unusual to remain on blood thinners for two years after surgery? You would think that having thinner blood would cause more problems if the aneurysm does rupture.

I had a horrible headache for 7 days. All the sudden I felt dizzy and my head hurt. I drank water and took migraine pills and ibuprofen during these days and it didn’t help at all. Tried going to my Dr but she couldn’t see me that day. I would go to sleep and wake up with these headache. On the 7th day it stopped bothering for the most part. 8th day I was okay. I was sooo scared this would happen to me but I really didn’t know much about it. Next time I’m going to emergencies🚨.

I found out on 1/7/22, that 1 have 6 aneurysms. I’m scared to death, I see the Neurosurgeon on 1/12/22. No family history of aneurysms, so I don’t understand why I have them. The aneurysms are in all different areas of my brain. Thank you for explaining this so thoroughly.

@@kyllie1234 for the one behind my left Opyhlamic Artery, they did a coil embolization and inserted a flow diversion stent thru the groin. The 3 others, 2 in the right Middle Cerebral Artery and one in the right Inter Cartoid Artery. I went to Emory for a Craniotomy on 5/17/22. They said they were absolutely going to burst at any moment, the clipped those. I’ve got a huge scar, from the center of my forehead, by my forehead, all the way down to the front of my ear. Everything works, I’m thrilled to be alive, and thankful I didn’t endure all the possible side effects of the surgery. Only thing I did wrong, per Emory, I should of had the one behind my left eye clipped also. The coil embolization is not a permanent fix, it only last up to ten years. Im not happy about that. @@kyllie1234 Yes, my 3 clips are permanent. The only symptoms I had was headaches anytime I would lay down to sleep. I’ve had many MRI’s done on my brain, and it never showed the aneurysms. Went to a new Neurologist and he ordered a MRI and a Ct Angiogram with iodine. Again, MRI didn’t show the aneurysms, but the CT Angiogram showed I had 6. So, always request a CT Angiogram with iodine. It’s the only way you’ll find out if you have aneurysms. My craniotomy was a success, huge scar, from middle of my forehead all the way down to the front of my ears. Neurosurgeon said, 3 we’re ready to burst. I was out of Emory hospital after 7 days. Everything works, memory, body, it’s really a miracle. So remember, tell everyone you know with constant headaches to get a CT ANGIOGRAM WITH IODINE INJECTION. Good luck to you.
