Yeah my mind tends to go on auto-pilot quite often and is so trained that sometimes I have conversations on auto-pilot and say things I then don’t remember saying.

I had such experiences several times. First I noticed it at school. When I write something off, I'm almost in a dream state. When I seriously think about what I'm doing right now, I'm out and see that I've copied two pages flawlessly. Afterwards it is extremely difficult to switch back to autopilot. But my craziest experience was during a lecture. I practiced this lecture continuously for many weeks. When I was supposed to give the lecture, I prepared everything and sank into thoughts. I thought about a lot of things that had absolutely nothing to do with the lecture. At some point I was interrupted and I was completely taken out of concept. Suddenly, many people had their arms upstairs to ask questions. I turned to my slides and saw that I was at my last slide. I tried to answer the questions in my confusion. After the lecture, my teacher came to me and said that my lecture was really great but he didn't quite understand why I behaved so strangely in the end. I have to say that such an autopilot can sometimes be really scary. Anyway, it helped me to a 1. Even if I don't remember anything about my presentation...

Very interesting! it's kinda like forming efficient habits where you don't have to think so much about something, yet you do it effectively, just like mentioned in the video, we need to develop a better autopilot mode, love that.

I've been thinking about it a lot lately that I could drive with literally no attention and yet would take sharp turns or sped up or slowed down expeditiously while needed. I would wonder how did I take such quick decisions without being consciously aware of them. But thanks Goodness! Now I know it's called autopilot mode of brain 👌👌💗

When I'm on a walk to a place and when I end getting there I can't remember any of steps I took or streets I crossed. It's the mostly scariest thing especially since you're not mentally there but at least I don't have to focus hard on it.

This is fascinating to me, bc I’m autistic and have heard my DMN is underconnected relative to other people’s. I rarely find myself on autopilot, and when I do, it’s usually on a hobby rather than my routine daily tasks, so I’m tired a lot.

This happened to me a few times. I was at work but i remember being in Autopilot for a period of time but I could recall any memories done in that period just a black out and disoriented because I was expecting to be in a certain area at work and then I was in another part of the store. I know I was on autopilot because I keep restocking but all of the products weren’t on their original tags nor were organized.

The key is understand the default mode well let's get on Philosophy " Know thyself" Why this would help ? Once you know the default mode . You know what is good and what's not . Once you know good and bad part of default mode now it's time to change the bad mode to good . Easy right? No ,it takes lot of effort and time .

In my opinion and by personal experience I think it's bad cause I feel so unaware of things. I once got high and I had a bad experience but it had to do with auto pilot and it felt like I was not in control of my own body like I'd be tapping my foot but I wouldn't know until I realized it and stop. My perception on the outside felt like a moving snapshot every time I'd move. To me Autopilot mode is one of the worst things a human can do to the brain because you're just setting yourself in one section of the brain and not using the other parts. The term walking like a mindless zombie comes from Auto pilot on the brain

I did not think that the autopilot is the DMN. I understand the autopilot mode is System 1 as explained by Daniel Kahneman. The DMN is activated when we are not thinking of something in particular. For example when you are thinking about say your next vacation whilst driving, yes it is the DMN that is activated but the act of driving is not because of the DMN. It is because of System 1. That is my understanding anyway. When the DMN is activated, the parts of the brain that are activated include the medial prefrontal cortex (the smart part of the brain); the medial parietal cortex (manages spatial reasoning and attention) and the medial temporal lobe (where our memory is located), Studies have shown that we can be creative when in the DMN. For example, when we shower, typically we are in the DMN -that is why some of the best ideas happen when we are in the DMN.

Unfortunately many people do salah prayer in autopilot mode.
@mraafi863
@mraafi863 5 жыл бұрын
I know it's been 5 months after you post this, but it's possible to train ourself to be more focused when we are praying (salah). By defining meanings of what we recite, and also slowing down our movement, it slowly helps you to be more "manual" while doing salah.

The drive itself was a blur? Do people really experience this, I remember basically every moment of my drives, not in a super sharp memory type way but more in a I don't have that type of auto pilot mode and consciously make all the driving decisions myself way. Yea I don't remember how many times I slowed down or whatever but my brain isn't great at keeping tally like that so that's no surprise, hmm maybe it's a sign I'm less intelligent than other people in a small way
