Considering how he only had one victim type and would turn himself in and would even try to avoid killing and that it all comes from trauma and mental health, I'm actually surprised that he's considered so high risk.
@cranberryrosebud
@cranberryrosebud 2 жыл бұрын
I think honestly, if it could've been up to him, he would've chosen proper help and a peaceful life over killing again. It's clear his trauma was breaking him, and while in a sense his actions were heroic, I completely understand why he was practically begging for help. He never had a childhood, and he never had anyone there when he needed them - sure, some bad people got what they deserved, and I'm sure many potential child victims were saved, but being that unstable and broken by PTSD is probably the worst nightmare one can live through.
@averysspookshowspectacular6205
@averysspookshowspectacular6205 2 жыл бұрын
@@cranberryrosebud That's one of the things I find so frustrating. This case is one that almost entirely relies on system failure over the individual's decision to murder. He knew it was wrong, he knew he needed help, but THEY were the ones that turned away from him. Now they put him in a glass cell and cut him off from the people who still support him (in a mental health sense, not support his killing...I hope). It just seems cruel to me. Also, he isn't like an X-Man or anything. How is he going to murder pedophiles while he's using the bathroom or something? How much money d'you suppose is being wasted on this ridiculous 24 hour surveillance of a guy who's along anyway? Either way, at least it seems like he's as happy as can be expected right now with it all...
@cranberryrosebud
@cranberryrosebud 2 жыл бұрын
@@averysspookshowspectacular6205 It’s ridiculous that they’ll spend time and money on a new form of solitary confinement, yet none of that goes into bettering mental help practices. There are people capable of living normally, but I guess just locking them away despite knowing their triggers, and in turn, maybe even a way to help them cope, is the better option?? The system disregarded his background and his triggers repeatedly, he wouldn’t be locked up for serial murder if the people responsible for him hadn’t put him in an environment that heightened the chances of him committing murder. But they’re making society safer by locking up a “monster” *they* created, right?
@Incompetences
@Incompetences 2 жыл бұрын
He's considered high risk because it's very likely he would kill again and possibly kill someone innocent. There ARE people that are wrongly accused of SA/other crimes, and if he's killing people HE thinks are guilty without them having a fair trial, that isn't justice being served. Even though he killed bad people and absolutely helped save future victims, he's a risk to the general population. Especially with the added mental health issues and trauma.
@averysspookshowspectacular6205
@averysspookshowspectacular6205 2 жыл бұрын
@@Incompetences But he's hardly unique in that way. There's a pretty good amount of people who murder other prisoners, regardless of their charges. At least with Maudsley they'd know who to look out for, like maybe just don't let him near pedophiles, keep an eye out, I don't know. Honestly, it doesn't matter what risk you pose, the way he's living is inhumane and gross. I think I understand what you're saying though, as to why he us considered high risk, even though I don't necessarily agree with the outcome.

Well by definition, cannibalism is the act of consuming the same species. It’s not necessarily defined further as having any additional motive such as sexual, though in humans there often (but not always) is a further motive. So whether it was sexual, survival, boredom, any or *no* reason at all, cannibalism is cannibalism if you’re eating the same species (whether you *want* them inside or not - put it this way, if you commit cannibalism to survive starvation, most wouldn’t care whether they want that person inside or not. Hell, some may reason that they’d shit out a person they hate!) That being said, there’s no evidence he ever even consumed any part of his “victims” (if they even deserve such a name- the vile shits). From various cannibalistic studies, plus the fact he’s still alive, it’s not only unlikely he would hold any motive or desire to consume anyone, but the fact that he’s nearly 70 and had an allegation of eating part of at least one person’s brain - he’d be at a sizeable risk of kuru (after years of incubation, you’re “lucky” to live 2 once it’s active). I think it was a publicity stunt from the media tbh. This intelligent killer with an interest in art and classic music had that much in common with Hannibal - but that’s it. Bullshit sells when you use drama. 100% it was a moniker from the Media to sell more and hype up fear. And imo it’s *weird* that they hyped up his fear factor when he was killing nonces and domestic abusers. Why would the average Joe need to fear him unless they were guilty of those crimes? I know that sounds super paranoid but considering how many nonces the media protects, I wouldn’t be surprised 😣 (Sorry for the long comment btw!)

@@LM-kd2zm I know that, I truly loathe prions and kuru 😩 However eating anything high in protein in another human is a large risk as you never know who has misfolded proteins (and that’s incubation time to blame. Obviously once symptoms show, it’s a bit obvious LOL) Tbf though, I should of mentioned other prion diseases as well. I don’t see why you’re apologising when you bring up good points (I know how prions work but maybe others don’t? Idk). I’m just prionphobic so even the unlikely case has me on twing, sorry. Still, there’s three main causes which is acquired, inherited (scary) and sporadic (scariest!). Because cannibalism and prions are only really touched upon through kuru, the research of whether CJD (taking the sporadic version not the vCJD from mad cow), FFI, GSS, or even diseases with “prion-like” natures like Alzheimer’s could spread via cannibalism which may be harder to determine at an earlier stage (I’d *imagine* so? Not so sure with Alzheimer’s though as that’s only really touched upon as prion-like. Maybe it is but can’t be transferred through consumption?) There was also that “brain eating disease” found in a water park (US) but that’s taking it TOO far 😭 My second point is (poorly explained sorry, I’m clearly not the best with wording!) that since you have cases like vCJD and Kuru, who’s not to say the sporadic forms of prions could spread the same? Obviously I should have been more open and not target specifically kuru, likewise mentioned that misfolded proteins as a whole in this country are very unheard of. Still it’s that risk. Likewise - and please correct me if I’m wrong here! This is something I’ve always been iffy on in education - I have heard that consumption of specifically human meat from another human can put you at risk of your proteins misfolding, even if the eaten person was healthy? Something to do with their proteins misfolding as a reaction to a foreign body to their own? (Since we have healthy prions naturally) But this being only a risk factor from consumption of the nervous system. Or is that not been researched into enough? (If you know, Lmk as it was always something I was iffy on - cheers!)

Robert's logic is 100% justified. Most child molesters face short sentences or get out of prison on parole. We've seen multiple cases where this happened and they went on to assault more children. Fellow survivor here, and I condone anything and everything being done to sex offenders. I never got any justice and I think I'll always have a lot of anger from that, among other things. That anger is manageable, but I got help from mental health professionals over the past decade. It breaks my heart that so many are failed by everyone around them and then either never get counseling or have to fight to get help for their trauma. I'm sorry for what you went through and I hope you have love, support and care in your life.

Robert kind of reminds me of the time a family friend got sent to 21 years in prison for murdering a man who'd raped a little girl. respect? killing isn't worthy of that. It's wasting energy killing a scumbag no one is going to care about when he could have focused on locating or helping heal the trauma of the kids who were hurt by the guy. Start a charity for them, get in contact with the parents...anything. The sentiment behind lashing out is perfectly understandable but it doesn't make it right. The anger is something that could have been better served starting benefits or shelters or charities to help children that are victims of abuse. I mean those kids that were abused won't be any better off wherever they've moved onto;, just because some guy they never met killed their abuser. It's a perfectly nice intention but the substance is lacking.

Exactly my thoughts. Even the most horrible criminals have a code. Stay away from children! If those types of people end up in prison they normally keep them in solitary for their protection because the system & guards know ‘prison justice’ is real. However guards /prisoners have the same hatred for such people & so turning a blind eye.. which I assume happens in UK & many other countries as well. Which definitely would explain the 9 hours & being put in a ward w people that are exactly his victim type. It’s not like other prisoners would stop him or say anything either.

You wouldn't be saying "screw the death penalty" if it was one of your loved ones who was killed by a serial killer! I don't know about you but I don't think it's fair in any way that the families of the victims who were killed have to pay for his food, medical care and clothing for the rest of his life! I'm sure you would feel the same way if it was someone who you Loved som much that you no longer wanted to live without them that had been killed or a child that you Loved who had been raped! A shotgun shell to the head would cost less than a dollar, the water that would be used to hook a power washer up to in order to clean up the blood would be almost free, no last meal (because their victim didn't get that much courtesy) so that would save a lot of money for the taxpayers and put them in a paper gown so that we can save laundry soap by not putting them in a prison uniform that they are just going to defecate in any way as soon as they die. As a taxpayer, I'd much rather pay for the death penalty than to pay for these pieces of garbage to remain on the earth.....and most importantly, it is a 100% guarantee that they will never harm another child if they are put to death!

I can honestly say that this is the first serial killer case I’ve ever heard of where my heart actually breaks for the killer and not his victims… This poor boy suffered unimaginable horrors at the hands of those who were supposed to protect him, who was let down by the medical profession when he was honest about his difficulties and yet he still has a moral compass that tells him what he’s done in murdering child abusers/pedophiles is wrong so hands himself in and accepts the punishment. There were so many failings and missed opportunities in his life to help him and instead he was left to deal with all that had happened himself. I can’t believe that they are still keeping him classed as such a high risk and keeping him so isolated when there has been sooooo much talk and action around the rights of prisoners. I’m someone who strongly feels that anyone who commits a heinous act against a child should be killed (whether that makes me an evil person for thinking it or not I don’t care) and although I can’t condone the murders he committed I understand why and appreciate that he did make the world a little safer for our children

I think the only ones I've ever felt any sort of 'pity' for (before this) has been those whose childhoods were horribly abusive, psychologically scarring, & involve serious mental illness (& obviously that pity ends where their heinous acts begin, so definitely don't get the wrong idea, none of that justifies what they did). Examples would be: Edmund Kemper (his mother did _awful_ things to him that left him totally warped), Aileen Wuornos (again, really bad childhood, was completely on her own as a young teen & also ended up in prostitution like Rpbert, she was such a 'broken' person), & someone like Ed Gein (who had a messed up childhood being raised by an alcoholic father & fundamentalist zealot of a mother who verbally abused him & made him her 'replacement husband' once his father was gone, all on top of his being _incredibly_ mentally ill). But they targeted innocents, & can't claim the 'righteous vigilantism' that Robert can.

They are doing nothing more than continuing the brutal abuse that Robert has suffered his entire life. I wish there were more prisoner advocates working to get Robert released to a high security mental institution where he can get help and be treated like a human being for once in his life. This is heartbreaking. The mental agony this man must have gone through is unimaginable. The entire system failed him. God, I've never felt this badly for a murderer on this series before. I've felt sympathetic here and there, but i genuinely want to give this man a hug (as bizarre as that sounds). I hated hearing he's still alive to this day, but I'm glad he has family that talks to him. I hope that makes it more bearable. I personally don't feel that any human has the right to decide if another human deserves to live or die, but i one hundred percent understand why some would say Robert enacted justice or even is a hero. I may have a different philosophy, but it's a complicated issue and my opinion isn't set in stone as the right one; and anyways, I'd imagine the 7 year old girl who was hurt by one of Robert's victims probably doesn't feel bad for the man. But I believe it's a tragedy that Robert would be the one to carry out this act, justice or not. It didn't undo the hurt his victims caused. It didn't undo what was done to him. Ultimately, all his actions accomplished was ruining his own life and landing him in a solitary glass cell. If he'd gotten the proper help when he was hospitalized, maybe this wouldn't have happened. Maybe he'd be living a normal life, maybe he'd even be helping people who went through the kind of things he went through. He deserved better, and i hope the life he's living now is as good as it possibly can be, given the circumstances.

Killing animal and child abusers/murderers is something I can turn a blind eye to. Rapists as well.

I feel like Robert is a good person. Because of all of the child predators, he just lost it and HATED IT because of his father.

This feels incredibly painful to watch. He’s everything I sympathize for. And he was driven to murder. And he understands what he did was wrong and he wanted to be stopped. But he still murdered and TORTURED people. But he didn’t get the help we asked for several times. I’m very conflicted and I feel not good. Thanks for this video, ouch my brain.

I always said… the worst thing a man can be is a child abuser, child sex offender, animal abuser… how can you look at a child or an animal and still do those monstorus things? This is a man in a need of help. I am sorry what he went though… no child should go through what he did… to be so traumatized by the people that should’ve protected him and loved him.

I don’t think Robert is a monster. I understand why he did what he did. Any person who abuses children doesn’t deserve mercy in my opinion. I actually applaud Robert, in the fact that even though he was sexually abused, he never sexually abused children himself, which is usually what happens. He basically ended the vicious cycle. He was honest, asked for help, and the system continuously failed this poor guy.

"is there such thing as a justified murder?" Yes. That's just my opinion, but absolutely Edit: Thank you for all your discussion! I normally don't comment such blunt things without my deeper thoughts and explanations; I had no idea this short message would blow up. I value your opinions, no matter where they are on the spectrum. For those who disagree, I think your logic and reason is in the entirely correct area. I agree with YOU. However, I'm an extremely emotional person who is led by my inherent thoughts and instinct. Emotionally, I empathize so deeply with victims that I can't help but absolutely support the hurt and mistreatment of their abusers or oppressors. That is all. Is it alright to kill in law or morally? No, but do I still support it under the specific circumstances we have been discussing? Yes. That won't change, but nonetheless, THANK YOU for your perspectives. You're not wrong for agreeing or disagreeing with me or the rest of this chain. It's a very nuanced, grey scenario, although some peoples' views are indeed black-and-white on the subject and that's just as valid. Please continue to let others know what you think in the comment section. Have a great day and be law-abiding citizens 😂
