AHDH brains produce and metabolize neurotransmitters, like dopamine and norepinephrine. Stimulant medication boosts these neurotransmitters, which is why they help us focus. Not sure why people assume medication does not help adhd….it’s the only thing, that helps adhd

It's an intention disorder in adults more so than an attention disorder. A person with ADHD knows "how" to do something, but there is a disconnect between the memory portions of the brain (hippocampus, neo-cortex and amygdala) and the frontal lobe which is responsible for the application of the memories/knowledge. It's why planning and organization are so difficult for people with ADD/ADHD. It's why they procrastinate and why people refer to them as lazy. They aren't lazy. They will work just as hard as anyone else if they are in the right working conditions and can turn their tasks into habits. Which is certainly more difficult for them to do than those who don't have this disorder, but it can be done. Parents today are so hell-bent on not allowing their children to be medicated to treat this and insisting that somehow their parenting can fix the problem. Fact is that isn't possible. This is a calculable disorder in the brain. It's is a physical underdevelopment in the brain that, until that portion of the brain develops fully (which may never happen) it must be treated with medication. Stimulants (adderall, Vyvanse, ect) and norepinephrine and dopamine re-uptake inhibitors (NDRI) have been shown to work very well for children and adults with ADD/ADHD. Another substance a person with the disorder needs, believe it or not, is sugar. I'm not talking about candy and soft drinks. I'm talking about naturally sugars. Especially those found in 100% not from concentrate fruit juices. The brain in person with ADD/ADHD has a very difficult time maintaining its dopamine levels. A steady, low dose of naturally occurring sugar can help with that. I'm talking small bites of fruit or something with a little honey. Or small sips of fruit juice. Not big gulps. Anyway, the point is that ADD/ADHD isn't a result of poor parenting. Nor can it be solved or cured by parenting. It is a developmental disorder and should be treated as such.

As someone who has adhd , I think it’s been over diagnosed nowadays , I think real adhd patients don’t grow out of it and a later diagnosis at adulthood should be required

I think a lot of child diagnoses should be attributed to them just being kids, not suffering from adhd. Adult diagnosis is more crucial
