Idea: How the heck did a company built on making tiny plastic bricks become the king of all toys?? (LEGO)
@OtakuUnitedStudio4 жыл бұрын
They originally made other toys, mainly wooden ones. They copied the design of someone else's brick (Kiddicraft) and marketed it better. When the other company tried to sue, they settled out of court and LEGO bought them out. As for why they're successful? A child or imaginative adult can build absolutely whatever they want (within reason), making it the ultimate creative toy.

I agree with Simon on the ease of assembly compared to other brands. I've never had a problem assembling Ikea, but often had problems with the competitors, sometimes holes wouldn't even match up. I shouldn't have to drill pilot holes in flat pack... I've found to lengthen the life of Ikea furniture it helps to glue all the joints with normal wood glue in addition to the normal fasteners. They also have really good after sales customer support. I had lost a couple shelf pegs. I went into an Ikea, told them my situation taking personal blame for loosing parts and asked how much it would cost to buy a few replacements. They said no problem and just handed me a small handful of the right pegs and didn't charge me anything.

Fun fact: Study have found that things people made themselves are priced higher by them then higher quality professionally made products. So even though IKEA sells kind of rubbish products, people would price their products higher, because they have assembled them themselves. Fun fact two: IKEA certainly wouldn't be the only one to mess up names of German cities. One of my ex-colleagues have received an order from a dispatcher to go to a city A. So the guy whips out a GPS and that gives him city a. So, without a shadow of doubt the guy spends sleepless night crossing 800km and spending over 100L of pricey German diesel to get to city a. In the morning the dispatcher couldn't be more surprised when he looks at a computer and GPS tells him my colleague is on the other side of Germany. Of course, it was a simple matter of one city having just one S in the name and the other one having SS in the name. I think it was Weiss v. Weis but I really don't remember anymore, too long since I left driving. Of course, we didn't get the load.

@@bigniper Because our Easter is going to peoples homes to bless that home for the next year with willows we have been decorated and we get candy as rewards. You can dress up as witch or bunny or something Easter related.. And I know that many other palces are missing their weird egg hunts with Easter bunny. More people know Easter bunny.. And Simon is slightly rabbit-like.

Do you know what also took a long time? My father was a road worker in Stockholm and he often used a heavy drill to make holes for dynamite, this machine was heavy and the weight and the vibration was damageing the body, it had been like this for a very long time and even you can see on old photos that there was also excavators and tractors there no one got the idea to attach the heavy drill on the tractor to work faster, safer and more effective. Can you not do an episode of 'ideas' that took long time to come up with even we had all the parts.

Bicycles took a long time to come up with. Why did it take so long for Swedish hotels to have one mattress beds for two people, double/queenbeds? Still hard to find outside of Stockholm and Gothenburg. Seems like they miss 40% of the reason people rent a room.
@Hexapoda.Resident4 жыл бұрын
@@shinnam Shall it not be the other way around, why do many hotell still have double beds that can't be made into two beds, and single mattresses can be washed much easier :)

@@Hexapoda.Resident Ever tried to snuggle with twin beds? One person always ends up in the crack, maybe on the floor. There isn't much friction to hold the beds in place, I have rolled over to snuggle in my sleep, the beds spilt apart, was not a good night's sleep.

@@shinnam Why snuggle in the middle, some can "snuggle" in the back seat of a car, so many Americans just need some practice to snuggle to the left or right.

Nothing I've bought from IKEA has fallen apart or been flimsy, their furniture isn't that cheap and disposable - unless ofc people just want to change their furniture for no real reason

I have had a few things break and a lot of them being flimsy. Then again it's the crazy cheap stuff that breaks, for example a 12euro clothes rack. The more expensive stuff seems to be fine, so I guess you get what you pay for.

There was this guy that got arrested for basically changing or adding arrows in IKEA store turning it into inescapable maze. Also I mentioned in the Tesco video that a priceless 1800 year old Chinese tombs were bulldozed by the builders so new IKEA store can be build in the contracted time limit, as the fine for vandalism is smaller than the contracted late fees, I hope that place gets haunted.

FYI, if you care, Kentucky Colonel isn't a military rank. Its awarded by the state of Kentucky for service to the state. In The colonel's case it was for providing cheap food (fried chicken was a big part of this) to people during the great depression. I think it was the depression. Some time when Americans were poor and food was expensive. He was in the military, but he never got past lieutenant.
