I took a different approach, I started with 2^2 - 1^2 = 3 , 3^2 - 2^2 = 5, 4^2 - 3^2 = 7 . then seeing a pattern replacing the first number with x, finding that x^2 - (x-1)^2 = x+x-1 = 2x-1 plug x= 5000 | (2*5000)-1 = 9999

I always get confused for a second when I hear you say, "2 into 5" (2 X 5), because "2 into 5" in my part of the world is like saying "5 divided by 2," and I would immediately picture the 2 on the left then the 5 inside a partial square. What you mean by "2 into 5" is "2 times 5" or "2 multiplied by 5." Anyway, I am a fan.
