Jokes aside, y’all are some of the only content creators left from my childhood that hasn’t like … turned into a horrid person lmao. On the nose but the reason for this sob was the fact that I wished I was able to hold onto my childhood a little longer. I just wish I was given the chance. Kinda cheesy but I feel like we’re all given that chance to get that same comfort from our childhoods through watching our favourite KZbinrs. Hats off to you, thank you for making me the very strange but somehow functioning adult I am today.

Phrases wise- I love the phrase "calling the kettle black". Also love the contrast between '"too many cooks spoil the broth'' and "many hands, make light work"
@DocDeeISC9 ай бұрын
"Pot calling the kettle black" is for accusing someone of doing something they also do. Many hands make light work for labor, but too many people injecting their opinions into a recipe or other creation makes it appealing to nobody.

My favorite etymologies are around bread!! Bread used to be cooked in ovens without sheets or pans on bricks/clay that was preheated by a fire. They scooped out the fire and put in the dough, so the bottom crust would be ashy and dirty, while the "upper crust" was clean, so the wealthy cut the bread horizontally. Thus was born the "upper crust" and "lower crust" of society😌. The 2nd is because "rule of thumb" came from grinding grain into flour. You'd pinch the flour between your fingers to make sure it was fine enough for cooking. Words! They mean things! And when they don't, there's a word for that too! Lacuna!!

The Spanish "lisp" is not actually a lisp. We have different sounds for the letters 's', 'c' and 'z'. For the letter 's' we always pronounce it like a regular s and never the 'th' sound or as some like to call it, lisp. For the letter 'z' we make the "lisp" sound (th). However for the letter 'c' depending on the word we pronounce it either as 'th' (like in cielo or cera) or with the 'k' sound (like in casa), these sounds can also be combined in a word. For example the word 'circo' would be pronounced like thirko.

I have a similar interest in phrases like you guys were talking but more misused phrases rather than the origins and meanings. My favorite one is “A jack of all trades is a master on none” which is how it’s typically used today to like shame people, for lack of a better word. But that version means the complete opposite compared to the full phrase which is “A jack of all trades is a master of none, but often times better than a master of one”. I think it’s crazy how at some point in time some people stopped using the full phrase and it completely changed the meaning of it.

My favorite phrase due to the origin of it is a phrase from Argentina, naturally it's in Spanish, it's "La verdad de la milanesa" which means "The truth of the milanesa", it's used when you're giving the facts to someone, milanesa being a type of food. The origin is that decades ago, in Argentina the origin of the milanesa recipe was being debated for a while and so the phrase came about.

I have thought SO MANY times about what it might be like if someone hopped into my body. I have a genetic disorder. I grew up thinking all the shit I was dealing with was normal. It wasn't until I was older that I started to realize my body did a million things it shouldn't. Not just pain, though that too, but random shit. Like I thought everyone had to deal with the occasional shoulder dislocation, for instance. If someone was in here, I don't think they'd know how to handle the day to day. I've built up so many patterns and movements to keep injury at a minimum. Don't turn too fast. Straighten and brace before sneezing. Tilt and prop up ankles when laying down, but make sure the blankets aren't on them or they'll pop out. Open soda bottles with the inner palm and not the fingers. I do a million things subconsciously, built up over the years. Any poor bastard in this body would probably have to spend an entire day just trying to figure out how to walk, eat, and breathe properly to avoid injury and feeling absolutely gross. ((For the record, I'm not bitching. I'm used to these things most of the time. I just genuinely enjoy this thought experiment and have thought about it a lot, haha))
