To Brainscratch, I have mega collection plus for Xbox and that version has save states. The menu in that version has cheats, saves for any part of the game, and reset. Plus the go back to main menu feature. Definitely the best version of the collection.

Ok to clear up a few things they were talking about. DK Jr.'s last appearance was in the Mario Tennis on the Virtual Boy not N64. The Koopalings appeared in Yoshi's Safari which was a super scope game that was the closest thing to a Mario FPS we ever got (would've been cool to have that rereleased on VC when the Wii zapper came out). Ludwig, Lemmy and Roy appeared in the SNES version of Mario is Missing and then they didn't appear again until Superstar Saga. Also why is Lewis overlooking SMB2 having bosses that weren't Bowser. Mouser, Tryclyde, Fryguy, Clawgrip and Wart. (seriously it's time to bring them back).

I consider the Tanooki suit to be more powerful than the Hammer Bros. suit, because they're the ONLY way you can kill the flame blasts from the airships and the Rotodisks, if you use the statue stomp on them. Also, being in Statue mode somehow makes your hit box the size it would be if you're crouching, so you can slip under one-block-high gaps, in certain circumstances.

What made the Koopalings popular? Not the actual gameplay as much as the personalities they got in the instruction manual, the Nintendo Power players' guides, the books and comicbooks, the spinoff computer games, and above all, the cartoons.

Beating the fortresses unlocks those key gates in the map, so you can pass through them in case you get a Game Over and not replay the levels you've beaten. They also don't reset when you save in the SNES version.

3:50 - until you beat a fortress. When a fortress is beaten by obtaining the orb from Boom Boom, it destroys the locked gate on the map. That will stay destroyed so long as you keep using continues, which you have unlimited amounts of. In Super Mario All-Stars, you want to save AFTER these gates are gone. Doing so will leave the gate unlocked until you beat that world and progress to the next one. Then it will reset if you save at the start of the next world since the game thinks you're pressing forward for progress. In Super Mario Advance 4, the game will prompt you to save after each fortress and world are cleared in addition to having the temporary saves. If you're adamant about saving progress, play the GBA remake.

I think the Tanuki Suit is more powerful than the Hammer Bros. Suit, because the statue stomp can take out pretty much everything the hammer can, while also killing the Rotodisks and jet flames, which no other power-up in the game can do.

I believe the statue the tanooki suit turns into is suppose to be a Buddhist statue, and many people believe if you bring harm to it brings bad luck those who harm it. That's why I think the enemies ignores it when you turn into one. Got the idea to think that from Mega Man Battle Network. Where you can place a Buddhist-like statue in a battle, and if either people hit it, they take heavy damage.

No Ted. The modern Donkey Kong from DKC1 and beyond is actually the original Donkey Kong from the Arcades' grandson. Cranky Kong is the Donkey Kong from the arcades and even refers to the modern Donkey Kong in some games as his grandson. Actually Ted when saving in Mega collection plus (the ps2 version of mega collection, don't know about the Gamecube version) it actually saves you exactly where you are so they might as well be save states. It's how I beat Eggman in sonic 2.

Both fortresses in this world have alternate routes you could take. The first one can be located in the center of the five pipes and gives you a Fire Flower. Easier route than going through the Thwomps and Hot Foots... Feet? Whatever. Second one requires a hidden P-Switch to present an outline of coins surrounding the door but can be entered regardless, I think (might depend of the version played). Basically a long shaft you have to climb and a small taste of two levels that World 7 contains. Takes too long and is not really worth it, IMO.

+Berry Box I believe for a while Nintendo considered Donkey Kong Junior and DKC Donkey Kong to be the same, however when Retro Studios made Donkey Kong Country Returns, the continuity got rebooted to Cranky Kong being the grandfather and Donkey Kong Junior being separate from DKC Donkey Kong; as in being DKC Donkey Kong's father.

Caleb Jaaniste well turns out you're half right when DKC came out, Tie DK was made to be Old DK's grandson, it was like this for a while. Then when DK64 came out they made Tie DK be the son to Old DK. Eventually they said fuck it and went back to Rare's original intention of having tie DK be the grandson to Cranky. That's how it went as far as I know.

Alurine Melduene i have actually grown quite accustomed to the physics of SMB1 over the years...probably because it's my all-time fave video game, let alone the first one i've ever played. But despite how much i have played it, i still cannot get used to Mario World compared to the first three (but that's probably ZSNES fucking me up, which means i have to find a real copy)

oddly enough, i NEVER had a problem with Mega man 1's physics. almost all the NES games felt the same to me...however, i did notice a change in the jumping physics by the time 3 came around. But back to Mario World. It's crazy, because i didnt have an issue with the controls when i was a kid...but then i was playing on an actual SNES. nowadays, i use a ZSNES emulator. that might be why i have such a damn problem with the physics.

DK and DK Junior are two different apes if I remember correctly. It was said that the current DK is the grandson of the original DK (aka Cranky) and DK is obviously the son of the original. Therefore DK Junior would be DK's father if you wanna get technical, but somebody may have to correct me on that but I remember looking into it and getting that answer myself.

Compared to...? SMB1 mario has a very momentum based jump, so when you jump, you can't really double back. In SMB3, you don't jump as long, but I believe you have more air control (especially with the tanooki leaf/suit)
