in my very first brainspotting session, my therapist fell asleep in minutes. I was very distracted and uncomfortable and didnt know what to do. I emailed her after the session and asked if she was okay and if we should meet at a different time because she was very tired and not really concious through my entire session, she said she was not tired, she was feeling my processing, and I should find a new therapist and that I'm not good for her. I felt so hurt and confused. I didnt mean to upset her and I feel so delinquent if I really had such an effect on her. I had not even gotten to any intense points of brainspotting before she was nodding off and asleep. so im not sure how she was feeling my processing when I dont feel like much processing was happening, especially because she fell asleep so quickly and there was no accurate spot for me to be focused on.. im so confused

Helen, I am very sorry to hear this happened to you. I want to reassure you that you have done nothing wrong and that given what you are sharing you want to find yourself another Brainspotting therapist. Please do not give up on Brainspotting because of this experience. It sounds like your therapist was experiencing what this video is about. We try to teach this in our trainings and highly recommend therapists do their own work to beware of this so that they do not impact the client's processing.
