I LOVE the diversity, Hector! It shows that you are growing as a true music lover! All the great music is from the 60's-90's imho. This song and "Respect" are my favorite Aretha songs. Glad you reacted to this version as it is actually better than the original late 1960s recording. She re-recorded it in 1980 when she was 38 for the Blues Brothers film soundtrack, in which she appeared. It was far greasier than the '68 original - Aretha at her best. There is video to it from the film, a great scene in the soul food cafe.

I grew up listening the The Queen of Soul and listened to her from the 60’s - to present day !! Soul is wonderful! Aretha was the Queen of Soul! What grew out of Soul was Funk. Out of Funk came Hip Hop. The Arch Deacon of Funk was George Clinton. Just about all -- if not literally all -- modern music has been influenced by soul and the blues. Rap, southern rock, psychadelic rock, even skinhead metal -- none of it would be what it is without the likes of Aretha Franklin and those who came before them. So, yeah, just ignore the haters as usual. This era of soul and R&B is just fantastic. I just love the passion Aretha sings with. Another artist you'd be interested in with a similar passion and sound is Janis Joplin. "Try (just a little bit harder)," "Piece o' My Heart," and "Ball and Chain" are some good ones. Others from Aretha's era are Wilson Pickett ("Get Me Back o Time, Engine Number 9," "Mustang Sally") and James Brown ("Get On Up (I Wanna Be A) Sex Machine"). I mean, how can you resist that last one?

Yeah, you do want to watch this. Dan Ackroyd and John Belushi used this (insanely funny!) film and soundtrack to honor their heroes.
