Ren makes me question my understanding of the word “demo”. I thought they were supposed to be rough versions of songs like a sketch for a drawing. But Ren puts out absolute masterpieces and calls them demos 😅 Anything “rough” about the music just feels perfectly intentional for the songs cause it fits the emotions. Ren is just too fucking good. And as usual only works with other talented people like the talent scout and magnet he is. Man is just built different 😂

During the pandemic, he pulled together these two "Demos" but I feel sure he spruced up the songs before releasing them. He only counts Freckled Angels and Sick Boi as albums. So I guess these are EPs?

This is one that takes a listener through a different realm. And it sets the brain cells afire. It takes someone willing to delve deep to develop an understanding. The music is gorgeously mesmerizing and notice that the video is greyscale instead of full spectrum color....this reinforces the conundrum of the lyrics.

This one is a hidden gem 💎 Both the song and the video are so powerful. Ren is able to tap into emotion so effectively. Ren’s collaborations are each unique and special. Molly’s voice is ethereal. I believe there will be another Ren x Molly collaboration on his next album, Slaughterhouse. I can’t wait!

Finally!!! Been excited to see this one. It’s a poetic masterclass with some sneaky maths (beat the puzzle “I” as in square root of minus one - impossible). The conundrum of working out how the relationship went wrong so you can come to terms with the loss and be properly penitent for your part in that breakdown (is how I read it)

I had seen that you dropped this on Facebook but was actually nervous to see your reaction to this. I was afraid you wouldn't see it for what it is. I heard it first time a year and a half ago and I'm still pulling gems from it. It honestly is a big puzzle. I've quit watching some reactors that couldn't understand how amazing and layered this song is a side from their individual talents. I just don't get it. There was a short a couple of days before the SGP that showed her playing the piano and singing the first part of what is now called Penitence; the text she put over the video said she wrote this before she met Ren and had no idea it was going to become a part of one of his songs ❤️ So at least the verse she starts the song with is at least partly (or maybe even completely) hers!

This is one that makes my face leak every time. This is pure art in poetry to me. I believe it is about both Molly and Ren and their inner struggles with the ending of relationship that they weren’t just a part of, they were enmeshed . Molly’s part : something that was bigger than the two people and it was too heavy for one to carry , it became impossible to tread water for them both without drowning. Although she did it for her own health/ survival she’s still not on solid ground. She’s still out there treading water, perhaps the heaviness was hers all along. And her voice is light and airy , cloud like in nature , but heavy with the storm that is going on in her head and her heart. REN’s part: well, this fucker. He’s just a problem. Using universal objective truths in physics and mathematics and the universal language of music to poetically describe the human condition. The search for meaning of a situation, the meaning of it in life and the endlessness and futility of it. The Laws of Physics and Mathematics create order out of chaos- like Ren who is trying to find the source ( beginning) so that he can find some rational reason/ explanation for the chaos that is his mind and his heart. “SQUARE THE ROOT OF PI. DIVIDE AND MULTIPLY “ Squaring the root of a number leads to back to the same place. IE, The root of 9 is 3 . So squaring the root (3) of 9 = 9 Now because Ren is Ren he is trying to find the rational ( the root or cause) the irrational ( his thoughts and feelings).BUT PI Is an irrational number so he’s saying that I am trying to find reason ( or rationality) in the irrational. And as an additional “ fuck you” PI always require an infinite number of digits to express the precise value. And since Pi is irrational, its square root is also irrational and also requires an infinite number of digits to express its value. SO IT GOES…♾️

I view square the root of pi as trying to make sense of the irrational, since Pi is an irrational number, but it could have a reductive element to it as well as trying to break something as complex as emotions; he's trying to break it down to reduce the overwhelming, chaotic feelings back to something fundamental in order to understand it and manage it, but squaring the root just takes you back to Pi, so you are back to square one. I'm still trying to square that line, but that's my best crack at it.
