This was the fifth port stop on the P&O Arvia Mediterranean Cruise (K319) in September 2023, stopping at the port of Barcelon in Spain.
The last time we stopped at Barcelona we walked up to the La Sagrada Familia, which was nice and a good long walk, but this time we decided to walk along the coast to the Barcelona Beach and Port Olimpic.
Our cruise ship docked in Terminal E, and the walk to the place where the cruise port shuttles drop off was just under 3 miles. It's a nice walk and there are good views across the docks. If you do walk this way, make sure you cross the road and leave the dock area by the roundabout and entrance kiosks otherwise you have to turn around at Terminal A and walk right back.
We didn't really know which way we were going as we have never walked that way before, but it was an easy, flat route and lots to see along the way.
The Sail GP is already a great Sailing event at Barcelona, but 2024 brings the America's Cup race, which is a really exciting event. It is particularly of interest to us as this as our home town is Cowes on the Isle of Wight and this is where the America Cup event originates. In fact it is the oldest International Sporting Trophy in the world (apparently!).
Each of the main teams have a base around the marina, and there is a great exhibition area for the event itself, complete with various interactive displays and a fantastic replica of the America's Cup itself.
After having a good look around there, we continued our walk along to the beach and Olimpic Marina. This was where the sailing events were based during the 1992 Olympics, but is being transformed to make is a great place for everyone going forward.
The walk was flat and easy, and we really enjoyed our time. We turned around once we reached the Marina and on the way back we stopped off at one of the cafe's for a couple of Cocktails (which were actually very good!).
Overall, our walk was around 10 miles on the day, so it was great to have a lovely walk in the Sun, all good to walk off some of the cruise food calories :)
