A failing flexi can also be the cause. The interior of the flexi hose can degrade and act like a one way valve that stops the pads retracting. This can sometimes be identified by the brakes working normally when the car is first driven after being parked for a while (a day or more) but then binding again after the brake is applied a couple of times.

You didn't mention Flexible brake hose failure. this can cause binding brakes too.

Yes to this. Internal failure of the brake hose can create a one way or check valve effect.

Is there a common fault on Astra j with the front brakes looking up shortly after fitting new disks and pads on inspection the pistons could not be compressed until the bleed nipple was opened on the second side we loosened the joint before the Flexi pipe to rule it out as well after pumping the pedal up and flushing some new fluid through it seems fine it's the second Astra j I've had it happen to now the only thing I can think might be happening is when the pistons are pushed back to fit the new brakes a valve in the ABS or master cylinder is getting stuck

How much to recondition abs pump on 2007 Fiesta MK6.5. Diagnostics show abs pump failure. Speedo and brakes still work all round for now.
