It just amazes me these guys had the forethought to shoot all this content in 4k back in 2016 -- it's aging so well. Whoever was responsible for this, kudos! Great teacher + great production = timeless content.

I watch everything at 360, verry rarely going to 720 or 1080 when small characters or a stunning landscape requires some higher resolution. Photography is better with HD, but on most videos lower res provides more than enough information. In fact I don't even watch a majority of videos, unlike this one they are just as interesting as podcast, so I directly jump to the comments while listening to the talk.

Dear Calvin, you are such a great teacher. I am sure it takes you many days, to prepare such a sophisticated procedure for teaching so precisely and concisely. You made my life (and the lives of my children, and neighbours) more enjoyable with these videos. Thanks to you I have learned how to maintain and repair the bikes of my kids, young nephews and many neighbours. Lot of fun for me, and they get to ride their bikes. There are not any bike repair shops within easy and quick reach, so if they have something so simple as a tyre puncture, they simply stop riding their bikes or even abandon them altogether. This makes them unhappy. Now that has changed. Thanks to you, I can get any bike, no matter what its problem, up and running in a few minutes, with unbelievable smiles on the faces of the children who own them. We cannot thank you enough. Ali.

Never realised that those pads have a toe! One of them has always been to badly aligned and the one edge wears so much faster than the other. 2 years being sent to bike shops for services an nobody has ever dealt with it in any way, so i though it was just a flaw of my calipers. You are my hero now. I don't think I'll ever take my bikes to bike shops ever again..!

Thanks a lot for @6:53. It took me a while to find a video that even mentioned this type of caliper brake let alone how to center it. I was beginning to think I might have to bring it to a bike shop to get them centered, but the solution in the video worked great and my pads are centered now.

Question: At 2:20, you say 'squeeze the pads to the rim and secure the pinch bolt.' Then when the tire has been removed at 2:37, the pads show a significant gap from the rim. Is the goal to start the procedure with the pads contacting the rim or with that gap?

Calvin really lays it down. Every step is explained perfectly. I just put some SwissStop pads on my bike and couldn't find a torque spec. My bike manual said 8nm but when I tried that, it just felt wrong and I stopped trying to torque the bolt to that level. Calvin noted 5nm which is more like the real world. All praise to Park Tool.

Be sure that your bar tape is not pulling the housing out of the housing seat at the lever. Check this buy peeling the hood forward and pulling the brake. Watch to see how much flex is happening at the tape as you apply pressure at the brake.

when setting up rear dual pivot pads, the left pad should be set to contact the rim higher than the right pad correct? I'm just going off the brief visual at 7:07 This is different from the front caliper where the the left pad contact the rim lower, as seen at 5:51 Could someone confirm if what I'm saying makes sense? Thanks!

That is correct. The front are rear are reversed from one another.

Hi Parktool Do you have a video on how to fix dual pivot brakes that won't retract. The issue is at the brake it self. The spring is not strong enough to retract. They are less than 3 months old. I'm thinking it is dirt, but what could I do? Cheers
@parktool Жыл бұрын
No video, but there is reading at the end of: www.parktool.com/en-us/blog/repair-help/dual-pivot-brake-service Make sure it is not cable drag first.

What's the turnable silver lever for (the one where the cable goes through)? Does it need to be set to the down position all the time?
@parktool6 ай бұрын
On this brake that is the "Quick Release Lever". It allows the arms to open to make the wheel easier to get out. Set the brake up with the lever down, in the closed position. Open it when taking out the wheel.

I have a center mount dual pivot system but want a stiffer caliper are they all interchangeable? Or are some center mount calipers different?
@parktool Жыл бұрын
There are different models with different "reach". Shimano and TRP have some good longer reach options. In most specs the manufacturer will list the reach which is the measurement from the center of the mounting hole to the center of the brake track.

Can someone help me, I have followed this guide however my brakes are still not biting enough. I have noted that I am unable to set toe on my left side brake pad as the arm on the calliper doesn’t allow the pad to angle enough to even achieve parallel with the rim. This had even caused the old pads to wear diagonally. This could be the source of the problem, however additionally to that I wonder if the painted rim could be reducing the frictional coefficient compared to a non painted rim braking surface. Any advice please, this bike is for my gf and I would like her to be able to stop if needed.
