Another video I needed today!! My light has been doing this very thing but doesn't stay on long enough for me to call my mechanic!! Definitely checking my fluid level. (I'll have my mechanic do the extra looking you taught! Thanks bunches!!

amazing. thank you so much, i'm glad i've caught the low level in time before it started sucking in air haha. normal wear and tear made my brakes drop below the min line, still have meat on my breakes but last break replacement they probably didnt add sufficient levels of brake fluid. thank you for this video!

Really helpful video. My brakes intermittently fail, the dealer said it’s in my heads. This car had so many other issue, I’m just done with this car.

Very good video, most videos don't ask to look at the seals. I have two questions: 1. Why can't we just replace the seal? 2. My brakes sometimes stay on during a cold start, but once I give it a bit of gas I hear a small thud and no more resistance - what do you think I should check?

Brake pads,drum cover, and brake caliper

1. Most often, by the time the seal has failed, the surface of the piston is pitted or scored, so new seals would fail again very soon. It is often more cost effective to replace the whole caliper and know that it is all up to spec. 2. This is very common in cold, wet conditions, particularly if it was wet when the vehicle was parked. A layer of brake dust, water and rust forms a bond, effectively sticking the brake lining to the cast iron rotor. When you move off, this bond has to be broken - that is what you hear/feel. Once you have used the brakes a few times the surfaces clean themselves up and no harm is done.

ah ha.. a Ford Focus, like mine! :) My fluid was low and I did have Intermittent Flashing of the Brake light. I put fluid in and the flashing stopped. Let's hope it stays that way. The brake pedal feels more Solid now. Great Video.. thanks Sue !! I enjoy all your videos. You know your StUFF.. :)

Wouldn’t worn brake pads also cause the fluid to be low? (I.e., the reason you remove the brake fluid cap before compressing the pistons when changing pads).
@randomencounters86443 жыл бұрын
Worn brake pads could cause a low fluid however not hearing the squeal tabs hitting and having a good pedal indicates just low fluid hence why they checked for leaks. And when you do a brake job do not remove the cap to compress the piston instead open the bleeder it is better than pushing potentially dirty brake fluid into your system brake fluid is supposed to flow one direction pushing it back into the master cylinder is not so great i have found (just my opinion)

What is it then if your brake fluid is full? And there’s no break fluid leaking out of any of the wheel cylinders they’ve been checked. I have disc brakes all the way around all the lines look good. I have a brake light that keeps coming on now and then I’ve checked everything.

Remember, low master cylinder could mean worn out brake pads/shoes on many vehicles.
@stuartbear9223 жыл бұрын
Exactly! As the pads/shoes wear down fluid will drop.
@ericbrown38813 жыл бұрын
You didn't check the thickness of the brake pads. A low fluid reading at the reservoir can be caused by brake pads that are too thin, yet not otherwise symptomatic! Never do a brake inspection without measuring pad/shoe and rotor/drum thickness! Now you've filled the reservoir, which will prevent the brake warning light from illuminating the way it's designed when the friction material wears beyond discard specs!

In the 2005-2009 ford f150 models the brake light stays illuminated. The problem is with the wire harness connection at the instrument cluster connection. Known problem by ford. Simple fix, just very time consuming. Google it....

My F-150 2012 Lariat CrewCab4x4 feel like something is rubbing when I step on the brake. What could it be? I just had the front rotors resurfaced and added new front brake pads.

It’s possible that the brake caliper could be loose

When someone comes to me for brake issues and I see the brake fluid is low, I check the all the brake pads/shoes. In most cases I have found one or more of the brake pads/shoes are worn thin and needs to be replaced.
