Reminder to anyone learning how to do this for first time, don't forget to put the fitting on the line before flaring! Thanks for the demonstration of this tool.

I just bought one of these kits. The manufacturer didn't machine the threads onto the 3/16" die! The other sizes are fine. Back to NAPA for an exchange.

Just bought this based on your video. Need to make some bubble flares. Edit added January 6, 2021 THIS WILL NOT MAKE BUBBLE FLARES. Bought a different product that will but if a bubble flare is what you are looking for this kit is not it. You have been warned. No issue with the quality of the kit but the bubble flare dies look exactly like the double flare and you do not get the crown you are looking for in a bubble flare. My local NAPA store could not make bubble flares with it. I would pull this video down End of edit Using the niccop line so need to stop winding on the press when it seats. Did three practice flares and then went to town. Read the directions as you need to set the depth for the bubble using the non bubble die. Also it help to lube the threads on the press. Another thing I found helpful is when you are cutting the tube only turn the cutter about 1/4 turn each time. The niccop will allow you to do more but then the burr left on the tube is bigger.

Looking forward to an update after you've used it at work. A lot of the amazon reviews on this tool (it's made by cal van) point out that the dies strip out very easily... Anyway thanks for the video!

Bought a brakeline flaring tool from Napa Carlyle brand and the damn thing didn't have any teeth in the 3/16th portion, took me 8hrs of alot of frustration and leaking unions to realize it.

I just started your video about the Napa inline flare tool. Idk how much that one cost but, I got the Cal Van Tools inline master flare kit part # 165 for forty some dollars plus $10.00 S/H.... I find that I need to use my old crossbar set up/single flare tool bar & forcing screw with the bubble flare die to get the best bubble flare! I ordered a eastwood 25304 but, I am waiting on it to arrive & NOW THAT I LOOK AT THE PIC ON AMAZON, It looks like a knock off of the eastwood25304 that I ordered. I DIDN'T REALIZE THAT WHEN ORDERING! I keep 2 extra tools inside my Cal Van case, the corresponding allen wrench, & a Dremel pointy thing that I use with a drill for deburring, inside my case!

Basically same flaring tool only for using of wrenches. A big problem with this would be keeping balance of tool when twisting. Would not work with ss I guess. Se how he keep both hands close to pipe when twist. It defeat purpose of this tool. Would work well in some bench clamp I guess.

I just got done using every curse word I know of while trying to replace a couple brake lines and thought there has to be something better out there. I do believe that one would work for me but no more Napa in this hick town! Do you know if there's a similar type available? An online store would be great. Have you used it much in the two years since this video? If so, is it still working well?

this tool is trash dont buy it
@pfarnsworth844 жыл бұрын
@@Stephen-ut5xo Could you expand on that? How exactly is it trash? The one I bought from advance just broke on its first use and every other "bar-type" look to be the exact same make and/or design. So perhaps make a suggestion for one that works better than the cheapo bar type that doesn't cost an arm and a leg or require a vise.
@Stephen-ut5xo4 жыл бұрын
@@pfarnsworth84 the only cheap one that works really good is Titan Tools 51535, but it only does 3/16 Line.
@Stephen-ut5xo4 жыл бұрын
The Threads strip out on it after only one or two uses. Then as you tighten it down it just lets go. Also the die that clamps down on the line slips easily and doesnt grip the line good enough. When you actually do get it to work, the flares are hardly useable. The only line this would work okay on is copper-nickel, which kinda defeats the purpose of doing it on the car.

Regarding the 'old style' garbage they sell at big box stores and most auto parts stores... "the die might get bent'... Let me correct you on this... "the die WILL get bent and after a few tries it WILL break into the tubing!!!" Many thanks for this quick review - I do however have immediate objections as to the 'quality' of the tool you're reviewing. First, the cutting tool. OK I guess to work in cramped areas, but how about the quality of the cutting wheel? These tools rarely last more than a few dozen cuts unless the wheel is made of carbide or unless you exclusively use nickel copper tubing. Steel lines wear standard carbon steel wheels very quickly, forget about stainless steel!!! Then there is the 'deburring' tool... That angle is way too sharp and you end up with a thin edge that can split and crack when you form the flare. Useless. Instead, use a steep angled carbide deburring bit on a drill. Very effective, doesn't weaken the tubing. Your hand-held spade deburring tool is a nifty idea if the metal is tough enough to handle soft steel... As for the clamps... ALLEN bolts?! What were they thinking? They'll round out after just a few uses! I'd get rid of them and replace them with TORX bolts outright... Also, why are the clamps so thin? A deeper clamp with 4 screws instead of two would prevent forcing and rounding out the locking screws and would have less of a chance of damaging the tubing wall. Finally, if it was thick enough, you could actually have space to for a screw-in handle into that clamping block. As for the final cone shape, you do have to bottom it out, just not too tight. If not, it will bend again when you tighten the line and your cone shape my deform. Other than these quibbles, the fundamental design seems to be a great improvement on the pure junk they sell for $20-$40. You could have mentioned how much you paid for it, though! Hopefully it's been doing good over time, I'll be looking for your follow up video, thanks for sharing!
